A cette époque, la Compagnie était propriétaire de l'archipel et l'avait divisé en tribus, aujourd'hui paroisses. Ces tribus portent les noms des principaux actionnaires. La plupart des forts construits par les Anglais sont nommés. La partie inférieure de la planche est occupée par une carte montrant la côte de l'île de New Providence, dans l'archipel des Bahamas, avec Hog Island, aujourd'hui renommée Paradise Island, et l'île de Salt Cay, ici nommée Salt Key. La carte est issue de l'Atlas minor de Herman Moll, publié vers 1736. Presumably disbound from a larger work. 96 pp. MISSING the lastleaf or leaves with loss of the last letter extract included in this pamphlet. A lengthy work providing statements speeches and letters by President James Monroe discussing troubles with Spain including an alleged expedition from the United States against the province of Texas. Present is a printing of the Adams-Onis Treaty of 1819 that ceded Florida to the US from Spain as well as established the border between the US and New Spain. This includes many documents and letters from US and Spanish officials in Spanish and translated to English regarding land grants treaties boundaries territories etc. including discussion of Florida the land around Mobile Bay the Red River etc. GOOD condition. Lacking the aforementioned leaf or leaves at the rear. Heavy offsetting and browning to the outer pages with general moderate browning to the paper. Scattered foxing and soiling. Spine curled. Before James Monroe 1758-1831 became president of the United States his political apprenticeship included serving as Minister to France. He was appointed by George Washington in 1794 to this post which proved disastrous from a political standpoint. He was recalled in 1796 and while he was an enthusiastic supporter of the French Revolution he was openly critical of the Jay Treaty with Britain which antagonized Washington's pro -British cabinet. Joseph Gurney Cannon is considered to have been one of the most powerful Speakers of the House controlling every aspect of its operation. FAIR/GOOD condition. Minor general fading to the covers a bit heavier to the spine. Small stain at the center front hinge. Light scuffing and soiling. Corners and head and tail of the spine frayed.
