‎Maratona.

‎Nights of Rain and Stars‎

‎In a Greek taverna, high over the small village of Aghia Anna, four people meet for the first time: Fiona, an Irish nurse, Thomas, a Californian academic; Elsa, a German television presenter; and David, a shy English boy. Along with Andreas, the old man who runs the taverna, they become close to each other after witnessing a tragedy when a pleasure steamer catches fire in the harbour.Nights of Rain and Stars is the story of one summer when Fiona, Thomas, Elsa and David all have to face the particular life crisis which first made them leave their homes and end up in Greece. With the help of Vonnie, a middle-aged Irishwoman who lives in the village and is now a near-native, they each find a solution - although not necessarily one they anticipated. Book‎

‎Neoclassical Architecture in Greece‎

‎The establishment of the Modern Greek state in the late 1820s, after four centuries of Ottoman rule, marks a crucial advance in the long history of the Greek nation. Inspired by their new sense of nationalism, the Greeks turned to their own rich architectural heritage - the physical ruins of whose glories stood all around them - for inspiration in building the towns and cities of the new Greek state. The development of this Neoclassical architecture in Greece had distant roots in the Enlightenment and the climate of Western humanism - including a predilection for the ancient world that pervaded eighteenth-century European thought. ‎BJOERNSTAEHL Giacomo Giona‎

‎6 volumi legati in 3, in 16, cm 11 x 17, pp. XII + 270 + (2); VI + 296; VI + 292; VIII + 278; VIII + 276; VIII + 270 + (2). Mezza pelle coeva con pochi segni d'uso. Macchia d'inchiostro all'angolo superiore del 5o volume.

‎Augustus. the Biography‎

‎8vo, Hard Cover. First Edition English Language. First published in German in 1998. 771 pages, some b&w illustrations and maps, notes, chronology, literature on the Augustan period, index. The great modern biography of Augustus, founder of the Roman Empire Born to a plebeian family in 63 BC, Octavian was a young solder training abroad when he heard news of Julius Caesar's brutal assassination - and discovered that he was the dictator's sole political heir. With the opportunism and instinct for propaganda that were to characterize his rule, Octavian rallied huge financial, military and political backing to eliminate his opponents, end the bloody turmoil that had so long wracked Rome and, finally, take autocratic control of a state devoted to republicanism. He became Augustus - Rome's first Emperor, and the founder of the greatest empire the world had ever seen. In this monumental biography, translated into English for the first time by Anthea Bell, Jochen Bleicken tells the story of a man who found himself a demi-god in his own lifetime and paints a portrait of one of the most dramatic periods of Roman history.‎

‎The Same River Twice‎

‎A young woman stands at a crossroad: her father has recently died; she has left her husband; and more, recently, her lover has left her. Traveling east with her young daughter, she stops off to visit old friends and relatives, each of whom reflects a different facet of her own life. Having still to come to terms with past losses, Nikki is not yet prepared to face her future. Her trip is a kind of hiatus, a time during which no irrevocable decisions need be made, a time to consolidate and clarify. Each of the people she meets, each new situation, triggers a memory, reveals the past in a new light, prods a reassessment so that the novel becomes a tapestry of association whose design gains depth and richness as each new color is laid in. Finally, reader and narrator together come to see the pattern complete, to understand its meaning and so to be able to move on. Book‎
