Prof. A. GIAMMONA – ALBUM (Australia, 1875-1882).
Un album di 21x28 cm, tela coeva, cerniere rotte per metà, nome dorato al piatto e al dorso (Prof.A.Giammona). Con circa 120 pagine sulle quali sono state incollate le recensioni dei concerti australiani della cantante Ilma de Murska (nella cui compagnia Giammona era baritono e flautista), poi dell'attività di solista del Giammona, ed infine il suo insediamento a Melbourne come insegnante di musica. Sono presenti anche alcuni annunci di concerti della De Murska in Australia e a New Orleans (in fine). Un ritratto inciso di Giammona, 11x13 cm, ritagliato da giornale. Straordinario press-book di questo artista catanese, che aveva studiato al conservatorio di Napoli, ed era quindi entrato nella compagnia della famosa cantante ungherese Ilma de Murska (1834-1889), una delle stelle della musica lirica nella seconda metà dell'800. Dopo una lunga tournée in Europa e poi in America, la troupe approda nel 1875 in Australia, a Melbourne. Qui resta per tre anni, e la figura di De Murska mette a subbuglio la “mondanità australiana” (tra l'altro si risposa a Melbourne) con i suoi capricci da star. Più lineare la carriera di Giammona, prima baritono e poi flautista: il suo successo australiano si concretizza al punto tale che il maestro decide di restare in Oceania e di insegnare musica a Sidney, dove viene accolto con calore dalla comunità italiana. - Testimonianza unica non solo della carriera di un musicista, ma anche della vita culturale nell'Australia dell'800.

South Australia's first newspaper was the South Australian Gazette and Colonial Register - later titled simply "The Register". The Register was founded by partners George Stevenson and Robert Thomas in London shortly before the two men with their families left for the new British colony of South Australia. The first issue of the Register was printed in London in June 1836 outlining the publishing venture and promoting the new experimental colony. After various difficulties the second issue appeared one year later printed in a rush hut off Hindley Street. This is a heavy book and will cost more to ship internationally. Pages 9-22 'Printed for publication in Australian Newspapers' deal with Francis Stacker Dutton who died in London on 25 January 1877.
