Dal "Theatrum Orbis Terrarum" incisione in rame all'acquaforte, coloritura d'epoca, cm 35,5 x 49 (alla lastra) più margini, semplice cartiglio in riquadro, in basso al centro, stemma araldico della Frisia occidentale in alto a sinistra, una elaborata rosa dei venti nella parte superiore al centro del foglio, velieri nel mare germanico a sud. Prima edizione con testo latino al verso (al verso il numero della pagina è il 19). Incisa da Jacob van Deventer verso il 1550, la carta include le province olandesi di Friesland, Groningen e Drente e quella tedesca di Friesland. L’Olanda è descritta in maniera molto dettagliata e comprende anche le più piccole cittadine, le città fortificate, i fiumi e i laghi (molti dei quali bonificati nel corso del diciassettesimo secolo e quindi scomparsi). Il "Theatrum Orbis Terrarum" fu il primo atlante moderno, comprendente carte di tutte le zone del mondo: in esso si riunì, in un unico corpus, l'eterogenea produzione cartografica del periodo, e con esso vennero poste le premesse per una impresa editoriale di enorme successo, durata dal 1570 al 1612. L' intuizione di Ortelio fu infatti quella di notare che prima di allora la produzione cartografica era irregolare e solo a livello locale, i pochi atlanti prodotti, i cosiddetti "Atlanti Lafreriani", erano costituiti su richiesta e in tal modo raccoglievano carte di alcune zone ma ne ignoravano altre. Bell'esemplare in splendida coloritura coeva, in ampi margini e in ottimo stato di conservazione.

Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original lithograph map with brown, white and blue tons. 81x57 cm. In Ottoman script (Old Turkish with Arabic letters). All toponyms are in Ottoman Turkish and Arabic. Scale: 1:500,000. Shows Mediterranean shores on the north, Bahr-i Lût [i.e. the Dead Sea], Aqaba Bay, areas of Arabic tribes in very detail, in addition, special huge lands like 'Al-Hism Land'. Also, it shows holy places, antiquities, fortresses, rivers; and Turkish Sanjaks, Qazas, Nahiyes, Qariyes based on the Ottoman administrative system. Cartographer is not indicated, but, it's composed for military purposes in the last period of the Imperial Ottoman, especially for showing Arabian tribes spreading over vast areas in its period, just before World War 1 (date of the printing of this map), such as 'Houtat Tribe'. A very detailed and attractive map of Palestine and Quds area and their topography. Following the Muslim conquest of Palestine in 636-640, several Muslim ruling dynasties succeeded each other as they wrestled control of Palestine: the Rashiduns; the Umayyads, who built the Dome of the Rock and the al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem; the Abbasids; the semi-independent Tulunids and the Ikhshidids; the Fatimids; and the Seljuks. In 1099, the Crusaders established the Kingdom of Jerusalem in Palestine, which the Ayyubid Sultanate conquered in 1187. The Crusaders failed to retake Palestine despite further attempts. The Egyptian Mamluks took Palestine from the Mongols (who had conquered the Ayyubid Sultanate) in 1260. The Ottomans captured Palestine in 1516 and ruled it until Egypt took it in 1832. Eight years later, the United Kingdom intervened and returned the region to the Ottomans. Considerable demographic changes happened during the 19th century and with the regional migrations of Druze, Circassians, and Bedouin tribes. The emergence of Zionism also brought many Jewish immigrants from Europe and the revival of the Hebrew language. Arabs in Palestine, both Christian and Muslim, settled and Bedouin, were historically split between the Qays and Yaman factions. These divisions had their origins in pre-Islamic tribal feuds between Northern Arabians (Qaysis) and Southern Arabians (Yamanis). The strife between the two tribal confederacies spread throughout the Arab world with their conquests, subsuming even uninvolved families so that the population of Palestine identified with one or the other. Their conflicts continued after the 8th-century Civil war in Palestine until the early 20th century and gave rise to differences in customs, tradition, and dialect which remain to this day. Beit Sahour was first settled in the 14th century by a handful of Christian and Muslim clans (hamula) from Wadi Musa in Jordan, the Christian Jaraisa and the Muslim Shaybat and Jubran, who came to work as shepherds for Bethlehem's Christian landowners, and they were subsequently joined by other Greek Orthodox immigrants from Egypt in the 17th-18th centuries. Due to the legacy of the Ottoman period, the ethnic origins of some rural and urban Palestinians are either Albanian, Circassian, or from other non-Arab populations.

In alto al centro, nel riquadro centrale contenente la pianta prospettica della città, si trova inciso il titolo: La città di Napoli: Circondano la pianta 17 vedute raffiguranti luoghi della città e le isole di Ischia e di Procida. In basso al centro è inciso un cartiglio, privo id iscrizioni. Sotto la veduta prospettica si trova una legenda numerica composta da 85 rimandi a luoghi notabili della città. Nell’angolo inferiore destro l’imprint editoriale: Si Stampano, e si vendono dal Stampator Paci a S. Biagio Maggiore. Acquaforte.Bellissima prova, impressa su carta vergata coeva priva di filigrana, con margini, finemente colorata a mano, in ottimo stato di conservazione. Leggere pieghe di carta nella parte inferiore destra.Sconosciuta pianta prospettica della città di Napoli, stampata dall’editore e libraio napoletano Giovanni Francesco Paci. L’opera si presenta priva di data, ma l’attività editoriale dell’editore Giovan Fancesco Paci (con sede in Napoli in S. Biagio dei Librai) la colloca all’ultimo decennio del XVII secolo.Per l’analisi di questa carta, non descritta in nessuna delle bibliografie sulla città da noi consultate, non si può prescindere dall’esame della nota carta “gemella” di Paolo Petrini (anch’egli stampatore a S. Biagio dei Librari in Napoli), datata dai repertori al 1696-98 (cfr. Bellucci-Valerio, n. 97).Dal punto di vista cartografico le due opere derivano dalla grande pianta prospettica di Alessandro Baratta (1627 e successive repliche).Le vedute che circondano la pianta prospettica (in entrambe le opere) sono invece disegnate da Francesco Cassiano da Silva, un milanese di origine spagnola che si trovava a Napoli da circa il 1691 e che fu l’artefice del disegno delle vedute pubblicate da Giovan Battista Pacichelli nell’opera Il Regno di Napoli in prospettiva (1703).Le ipotesi che si possono formulare rispetto a questa pianta prospettica di Giovanni Francesco Paci sono due: o prototipo dell’opera di Petrini, o copia e volgarizzazione della stessa.In entrambi i casi la datazione delle due opere deve essere quasi la stessa.Propendiamo per assegnare a questa lastra di Giovanni Francesco Paci il titolo di prototipo di questa tipologia di pianta prospettica. L’estrema rarità dell’opera potrebbe essere spiegata dal fallito tentativo di trovare un dedicatario per la stessa, come dimostra l’assenza di iscrizioni nel cartiglio in basso.Magnifico esemplare di questa rarissima iconografia di Napoli.Bibliografia: non descritta. Incisione in rame all'acquaforte, b/n, cm 38,5 x 45 (il foglio). La mappa relativa al Mar Caspio, include le terre fra il Volga e la catena montuosa dell' Oural che fa tradizionalmente da limite geografico e da spartiacque fra l'Europa e l'Asia; sono segnalate le città di Astrakhan, nella Russia meridionale, e Orenbourg, situata al limite orientale della parte europea sul fiume Ural. Pallas, of German origin, was a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and on request of the Russian government explored the lesser-known provinces of the Russian Empire.
