1717. Near Fine. Handwritten parchment deed 51 x 50 cm. folded. On 30 April 1717 William Pearse of London and James Pearse of the parish of St. Clements Dane sold to Richard Hill of Hawkestone Salop Shropshire the right to make appointments to the parsonages of Ditchingham Forncett Starston and Alborough in Norfolk County. Signed by William and James Pearse with their seals. With an armorial embellishment of the first letter. Three blue stamps in the margin and one royal stamp on the outside. Richard Hill 1655-1727 known as "The Great Hill" served as a diplomat during the War of the Spanish Succession; as envoy to Maximilian II Emanuel Elector of Bavaria in Brussels and to the duke of Savoy in Turin; and as ambassador to The Hague. After returning to England he served as Lord of the Treasury 1699-1702; as a Commissioner of the Admiralty 1702-08; and as Counsellor to Prince George of Denmark the Prince Consort of Queen Anne. In Near Fine Condition: minor loss of vellum at end of fold at one edge without loss of writing; otherwise clean and crisp. unknown

Palo Alto CA: Hiller Aircraft Corporation. Very Good. 1958. Photograph. B&W Illustrations; This is a group of ephemera relating to the release and promotion of the X-18 "Propelloplane". The group includes two typed immediate realease sheets four 8" x 10" black and white photographs of the X-18 and a press reference manual all in Very Good or better condition. "Stanley Hiller then seventeen established the first helicopter factory on the West Coast of the United States located in Berkeley California in 1942 under the name "Hiller Industries" to develop his design for the coaxial-rotor XH-44 "Hiller-Copter" for the U. S. Army. The XH-44 became operational in 1944. In collaboration with Henry J. Kaiser it became United Helicopters in 1945. In the postwar years United Helicopter produced a number of innovative helicopter designs for military and civilian purposes including coaxial-rotor and tailless designs as well as more conventional models. In January 1949 a Hiller 360 became the first civilian helicopter to cross the United States. Besides helicopters in the year after World War II Stanley Hiller researched a two-man rocket-jet aircraft design that took off and landed vertically called the VJ-100 in which he tried unsuccessfully to interest the U. S. Military." from Wikipedia "The Hiller X-18 was an experimental cargo transport aircraft designed to be the first testbed for tiltwing and V/STOL vertical/short takeoff and landing technology. Design work started in 1955 by Stanley Hiller Jr and Hiller Aircraft Corporation received a manufacturing contract and funding from the U. S. Air Force to build the only X-18 ever produced serialled 57-3078. To speed up construction and conserve money the plane was constructed from scavenged parts including a Chase YC-122C Avitruc fuselage 49-2883 and turboprops from the Lockheed XFV-1 and Convair XFY-1 Pogo experimental fighter programs. The tri-bladed contra-rotating propellers were a giant 16 ft 4.8 m across. The Westinghouse turbojet engine had its exhaust diverted upwards and downwards at the tail to give the plane pitch control at low speeds. BROMHEAD SASKATCHEWAN SASK SK. Very Good. 1933. On offer is a super very charming autograph album with dated handwritten entries starting in 1933 with some later entries to 1950. The book was owned by Hilliard Leslie of Bromhead Saskatchewan who filled the 60 or so pages with perhaps a quarter of the pages on both sides with friends comments poems and best wishes from as far away as Toronto Winnipeg Minnesota but is mostly Bromhead and another 4 or 5 other towns in Saskatchewan. All English language save for the very first entry of a Walter Block in what appears to be a Slavic language. The binding is almost detached and the text block is loss but still bound and not without charm. There is a former owner's very small printed name-plate on the fep the corners are slightly bumped there is minor edge-wear and minimal rubbing to the boards else fine. NEAR FINE. This is a full detailed catalogue of the 275 works in the collection donated to the Museum of Fine Arts Boston. An important catalogue of American arts. This extensive catalogue is one of the finest for the study of colonial and early American furniture painting and the decorative of arts of the period of 1720-1820.This beautifully printed volume set in Monotype Bembo and with full-tone collotype illustrations established a high visual standard for furniture catalogs that was emulated by Joseph Downs in the 1950s and Morrison Heckscher in the 1980s. The catalog includes 125 examples of high-style furniture the vast majority from Massachusetts and Rhode Island although some superb Philadelphia objects are included. Good. 1905. On offer is a superb unique original 1905 French midshipman's manuscript logbook handwritten by 24 year old Hippolyte Joseph Vial. While in many ways this French Frigate's log is a classic midshipman's journal filled with the technical data compiled for centuries by eager men who served aboard a ship of War but the depth and breadth of the well filled journal represents and throughout iterates the talent and 'old salt' nature of Vial who is on the verge of his Lieutenancy and a mere four years from his own command has for the naval life; the 142 page folio book contains 24 hand drawn maps in colored pencil done and further littered with drawing and illustrations with a super eye of a man that will serve his country for nearly 40 years at sea and one day win the Legion of Honour. EDITOR'S NOTE: In our years of handling many 100s of nautical logbooks this is the first time we have seen a French Naval manuscript book.
