Richard RANFT - (Hugues LE ROUX)
"L'écuyère"" - Lithographie originale sur Japon - L'Estampe Moderne
Paris: Imprimerie Champenoispour CH. MassonH. Piazza 1898. Fine. Imprimerie Champenois pour CH. Masson H. Piazza Paris Avril 1898 23.50 x 34.50 cm une feuille et une serpente Rare original lithograph printed in colors executed by Richard Ranft for L'Estampe Moderne series number 12 published in April 1898. One of 50 deluxe proofs printed on Japan paper with wide margins artist's signature in the plate publisher's dry stamp representing a child's profile in the lower margin numbered stamp of the deluxe printing on verso small dark dampstain with very slight loss to corner light trace of the stamp from the previous engraving on recto; engraving preceded by a tissue guard captioned with the artist's name title and an extract from a work; blank tissue guard. Lithograph inspired by an extract from Jeux du cirque written by Hugues Le Roux reproduced on the tissue guard of the print. Magnificent French monthly publication edited between May 1897 and April 1899 L'Estampe moderne consists of unpublished chromolithographs which unlike other journals such as Les Maîtres de l'Affiche and as stipulated on the tissue guards were created specially by each artist for the journal. Thus 100 prints appeared in total covering the major artistic movements of the end of the 19th century: Symbolism Art Nouveau Pre-Raphaelites Orientalists and Belle Époque. Each delivery of four prints was issued in 2000 copies sold for 3.50F and 100 on Japan paper offered at 10F. Henri Piazza also planned a confidential deluxe printing: 50 copies on Japan paper with wide margins and 50 in black on China paper at the considerable price of 30F. This print of handsome format is superbly printed on the most prestigious of papers: Japan paper. Thick silky satiny and pearlescent it contributes to making each page a work in its own right. Its quality of ink absorption and its affinity with colors also make it the ideal support for these very fine lithographs. The interest of French collectors in artistic posters grew at the beginning of the 1890s. Octave Uzanne to qualify this fever invented the term ""affichomanie"". The poster originally popular and pasted on the streets of the capital then became an art object and its ephemeral support became precious and destined for preservation. Piazza decided to remove the poster from its advertising vocation and elevate it to the rank of a work of art in its own right on the same level as the illustrated deluxe book. He thus composed a prestigious collection of entirely original works by the most prominent European artists of the moment: Georges de Feure Eugène Grasset Henri Detouche Emile Berchmans Louis Rhead Gaston de Latenay Lucien Lévy-Dhurmer Gustave-Max Stevens Charles Doudelet Hans Christiansen Henri Fantin-Latour Steinlen Ibels Engels Willette Henri Meunier Evenepoël Bellery-Desfontaines Charles Léandre etc. Handsome copy in a style and composition close to Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. Auguste ROEDEL - (Pierre DUPONT)
"La romance"" - Lithographie originale sur Japon - L'Estampe Moderne
Paris: Imprimerie Champenoispour CH. MassonH. Piazza 1898. Fine. Imprimerie Champenois pour CH. Masson H. Piazza Paris Mai 1898 22.50 x 34 cm une feuille et une serpente Rare original lithograph printed in colors executed by Auguste Roedel for L'Estampe Moderne series number 13 published in May 1898. One of 50 deluxe proofs printed on Japan paper with wide margins artist's signature in the plate publisher's blind stamp representing a child's profile in the lower margin numbered stamp of the luxury printing on verso slight trace of the stamp from the previous engraving on recto; engraving preceded by a tissue guard captioned with the artist's name the title a poem and a text lacking at head without touching the text. Lithograph inspired by a poem by P. Dupont entitled Les fraises reproduced on the tissue guard of the print. Magnificent French monthly publication edited between May 1897 and April 1899 L'Estampe moderne consists of original chromolithographs which unlike other magazines such as Les Maîtres de l'Affiche and as stipulated on the tissue guards were created specially by each artist for the magazine. Thus 100 prints appeared in total covering the major artistic movements of the late 19th century: Symbolism Art Nouveau Pre-Raphaelites Orientalists and Belle Epoque. Each delivery of four prints is printed in 2000 copies sold at 3.50F and 100 on Japan paper offered at 10F. Henri Piazza also provides for a confidential printing of very great luxury: 50 copies on Japan paper with wide margins and 50 in black on China paper at the considerable price of 30F. This print of handsome format is superbly printed on the most prestigious of papers: Japan. Thick silky satiny and pearlescent it contributes to making each page a work of art in its own right. Its quality of ink absorption and its affinity with colors also make it the ideal support for these very beautiful lithographs. The interest of French collectors in artistic posters intensified at the beginning of the 1890s. Octave Uzanne to qualify this fever invented the term ""affichomania"". The poster originally popular and posted in the streets of the capital then became an art object and its ephemeral support became precious and devoted to preservation. Piazza decided to remove the poster from its advertising purpose and elevate it to the rank of a complete work of art in the same way as the deluxe illustrated book. He thus composed a prestigious collection of entirely original works by the most prominent European artists of the moment: Georges de Feure Eugène Grasset Henri Detouche Emile Berchmans Louis Rhead Gaston de Latenay Lucien Lévy-Dhurmer Gustave-Max Stevens Charles Doudelet Hans Christiansen Henri Fantin-Latour Steinlen Ibels Engels Willette Henri Meunier Evenepoël Bellery-Desfontaines Charles Léandre etc. Handsome copy. COLETTE
Lettre autographe signée adressée à Adrien Peytel
Marseille 1923. Fine. Marseille s. d. novembre 1923 13.70 x 18.70 cm une page sur un double feuillet Autograph letter signed by Colette addressed to her friend the man of letters and lawyer Adrien Peytel one page written in black ink on a double sheet with letterhead from the Grand Hôtel de Noailles et Métropole in Marseille. A central fold inherent to the mailing of the letter. Handsome letter addressed from Marseille while Colette was conducting a lecture tour: ""I'm finishing my tour. I'll be in Paris on Sunday and we'll take care of this matter - which I still haven't understood anything about."" ""In November 1923 she dealt with . a subject she knew by heart Le Théâtre vu des deux côtés de la rampe. Her very young lover Bertrand de Jouvenel joined her in Marseille at the Grand Hôtel de Noailles et Métropole. Scandal: Bertrand de Jouvenel was none other than the son of her second husband the diplomat Henry de Jouvenel; guaranteed uproar around the fifty-year-old writer while her husband's son had just celebrated his twentieth birthday. Colette had two years earlier initiated the future economist and political scientist into love in this scandalous liaison which provided the theme and situations for Blé en herbe published in that same year 1923."" "L'espérance"" - Lithographie originale sur Japon - L'Estampe Moderne
Paris: Imprimerie Champenoispour CH. MassonH. Piazza 1898. Fine. Imprimerie Champenois pour CH. Masson H. Piazza Paris Avril 1898 20.30 x 27 cm une feuille et une serpente Rare original lithograph in crayon manner executed by Pierre Puvis de Chavannes for LEstampe Moderne dated 1 August 1869 from series no. 12 issued in April 1898. One of 50 deluxe proofs printed on japon paper with wide margins on vellum laid down on japon paper signed and dated in the plate with the publishers blindstamp of a childs profile in the lower margin and numbered stamp of the deluxe issue on verso. A faint dark stain to one corner with slight offsetting of the preceding plate. Preceded by a tissue guard bearing the artists name title an excerpt of text and a short presentation of the engraving; with an additional blank tissue guard. Lithograph inspired by an excerpt from Armand Dayot reproduced on the tissue guard of the print. Magnificent French monthly publication issued between May 1897 and April 1899 LEstampe Moderne consists of original chromolithographs which unlike other journals such as Les Maîtres de lAffiche and as stated on the tissue guards were created expressly for the magazine by each artist. A total of 100 prints were issued reflecting the major artistic movements of the late 19th century: Symbolism Art Nouveau the Pre-Raphaelites Orientalism and the Belle Époque. Each instalment of four prints was published in 2000 copies priced at 3.50 francs with 100 on japon paper offered at 10 francs. Henri Piazza also planned an extremely limited de luxe printing: 50 copies on large-margined japon and 50 in black on china paper at the considerable price of 30 francs. This large-format plate is superbly printed on the most prestigious of papers: japon. Thick silky satiny and pearly it makes each sheet a work in its own right. Its ink absorption and affinity with colour also make it the ideal support for these magnificent lithographs. French collectors enthusiasm for artistic posters increased in the early 1890s. Octave Uzanne to describe this fervour coined the term affichomanie. The poster originally popular and pasted in the streets of Paris was elevated to the status of art object its ephemeral medium transformed into something precious and destined for preservation. Piazzas ambition was to detach the poster from its advertising function and raise it to the rank of an art form in its own right on a par with the luxury illustrated book. He thus composed a prestigious collection of entirely original works by the most celebrated European artists of the day: Georges de Feure Eugène Grasset Henri Detouche Émile Berchmans Louis Rhead Gaston de Latenay Lucien Lévy-Dhurmer Gustave-Max Stevens Charles Doudelet Hans Christiansen Henri Fantin-Latour Steinlen Ibels Engels Willette Henri Meunier Evenepoël Bellery-Desfontaines Charles Léandre and others.
