The complete set of illustrations is present whereas most copies lack one or several plates. The Spanish original dates from 1609. ""This translation is more complete than the original: the third volume is entirely composed of the history of conquests made by the Dutch in this country"". Chadenat 739p. Armorial copy with arms stamped on the upper covers and cipher on the lower covers. Unidentified. Contemporary full brown speckled sheep binding. Spine with raised bands decorated with central fleuronné lozenges and roulettes on the bands. Brown sheep title label and volume labels. Arms and ciphers stamped on the covers with faded gilding or only traces of gilding. If the arms were gilt the ciphers on the lower covers were stamped in blind. Traces of rubbing. 3 corners slightly bumped. Slight traces of dampstaining in upper margin on the first 3 leaves of volume I and the preliminary leaves recurring sporadically on some leaves. Same on the title of volume 2 and some leaves and plates. Same in volume III on the frontispiece the endleaves and appearing sporadically on some leaves and plates then recurring again etc. Some foxing and browned pages. 3 plates have small paper patches on verso filling tears. Nibbling on the upper cover of volume II and the lower cover of volume III. Good armorial copy. Archipelago of 632 islands in Indonesia these Moluccan islands where spices were found very early attracted the covetousness of Europeans. This is one of the most important works for the history of the Philippine Islands with precious documents on the navigators Drake and Magellan. ""Although this work is for the most part purely historical one can nevertheless gather quite precious information on the physical state of the Moluccan Islands on their productions on indigenous customs at the time of conquest"". The last two plates are unnumbered. Contemporary full brown sheep binding. Spine with raised bands decorated with large sunflower fleurons. Beige morocco title label. First and last leaves backed the last correcting a tear in the inner margin; in the first the frontispiece has been inserted into the leaf which serves as a mount. Small wormholes in the lower margin forming a comma throughout the volume. In the inner margin 2 small perforations probably to pass strings and form a gathering. The first 3 plates with some pale foxing and soiling or yellowing in margins. Rubbing. Scratches on the boards. One corner slightly bumped. Beautiful spine with soft but not collapsed headcaps infinitely faded; this spine has the particularity of possessing a laminated lower section as with the first inlay bindings one might think it is one of the first anchor spines formed like the first gilt globe bindings with an inlay in the lower section; however this world map binding is not at its first attempt it has been thinned in this version the first ones too bulky and heavy would deform and the spine is more harmonious losing its wide unsightly red band. Let us recall that this binding enjoyed a short life and dressed only three titles: The Children of Captain Grant The Mysterious Island and Matthias Sandorf. Perfect second cover. Well-pointed corners lightly rubbed. A tear on the interior border of the second cover measuring 8mm. Perfect edges. Shiny percaline. Very fresh copy completely free of foxing. Magnificent copy very rare in this condition. One of the author's great classics 2 children set out to search for their shipwrecked father. The novel leads the reader from Scotland to New Zealand via the Canary Islands Cape Verde the Strait of Magellan the Andes mountain range the Argentine pampa the Cape of Good Hope Amsterdam Island and Australia. Paris 16 septembre 1941 14.50 x 10.50 cm une feuille recto-verso Autograph letter signed by composer Vincent Scotto addressed from his Parisian home to his great friend the Provençal writer caricaturist and filmmaker Carlo Rim who was notably the friend of Fernandel Raimu and Marcel Pagnol but also of André Salmon and Max Jacob 44 lines in black ink Vincent Scotto insists with his friend and collaborator Carlo Rim whom he considers too hesitant and indecisive that he find the motivation to contact theater man Albert Willemetz so that the latter will stage the play that the two Marseillais created together for fear that their project might fall through: ""July 2nd My dear Carlo in response to your letter I must tell you that I am leaving for Paris Sunday 6th final deadline and that I would have liked to bring Willemetz the authorization and conditions for our play to be performed because I sense that with all these hesitations we are going to miss out again and that it's another play that will be performed instead of ours. I would have wanted you to write me a letter in this sense: ""My dear Willemetz. It is understood that we authorize you to perform our play at the Bouffes Parisiens and to touch it up according to the needs of your theater. You are also authorized to write the lyrics for the songs according to the performers. I will cede to you for this assuming that the play is declared at 12%. 1% on my rights and Mr. Vinc. Scotto 2% on his which will make 3% Willemetz 4% Scotto 5% Carlo Rim but it remains well understood that if the play is not performed by January 1st 42 in one of your theaters we will consider this contract as null and void and we each regain our freedom."" Cathedral-style spine with raised bands decorated with gilt and blind monastic tools in panels. Green morocco title label. Covers with rich blind border featuring various friezes stamped in blind with a central monastic tool. Tools on the edges and turn-ins. Blind-stamped leather borders. Gilt edges. Yellow checkered endpapers. Scattered foxing. At foot: R. P. Decle. Very handsome copy in an original binding. Journey undertaken during the Sicilian insurrection for independence in 1820. The book is therefore composed of two parts one being the travel narrative and the other on the Sicilian revolt the author attempting to understand the reasons for this uprising. The poem 15 lines in black ink on one leaf and dedicated to Paul Verlaine was integrated into his second work the collection of poems ""Flûtes"" published by Editions de La Revue Blanche in 1898 under the title ""Chameaux"": ""Quelques chameaux A Paul Verlaine J'ai connu dans mon enfance un vieux lapidaire Qui avait fait emplette de trois ou quatre dromadaires A l'encan - ou peut-être même dans une liquidation Ce qui alors simplifierait beaucoup la question. Il faudrait d'ailleurs aimable lecteur que je le confesse Ce n'était pas des dromadaires de la grosse espèce. Mais ce n'était pas des petits dromadaires non plus : Ils étaient de la bonne moyenne - et même un peu plus. Par malheur le lapidaire dut les placer dans sa commode : Les logements à Paris sont si incommodes. Et alors les pauvres dromadaires Sont tous morts PARCE QU'ILS N'AVAIENT PAS ASSEZ D'AIR.
