COPLAND AARON; SCHUMAN WILLIAM WITH AN INTRODUCTION BY
What To Listen For In Music
McGraw-Hill Book Company New York: 1989. Hardcover no dustjacket. Good condition. Before Copland no master composer had ever attempted to explain the craft of music composition to the layperson. This book is one of a kind in fact unique. The uninitiated can gauge its significance by imagining a book by Rembrandt called What to look for in painting." William Schuman. Coppola Pietro Antonio music; Ferretti Jacopo libretto
La pazza per amore : dramma Vocal/Piano Score; Libretto in Italian
Paris: Pacini 1835. Undated but approximately 1835 parallel to the publication in Milan by Lucca. This is a 20th century rebinding of an original complete with the paper cover; both the cover and the title page bear the stamp of Scharfenberg & Luis of New York importers of European scores around the middle of the 19th century. The old cover is much smudged and shows dark specks droplet marks even a trace of foxing; interior pages while toned occasionally showing a band of dimmer inking and bearing the odd small spot or shallow chip or tear at the foreedge show only two additional markings namely the tipping in of a postmortem biographical notice about composer Pier' Antonio Coppola beneath a penciled note about the author of the libretto followed by a blue ink stamp stating "Pacini" possibly proprietory in origin. The binding has library-cloth reinforced hinges primarily carnadine marbled endpapers and tight binding inside a full red buckram hardcover with gilt titles at the front and spine gently darkened along the spine and showing small spots of surface rubbing along the spine and at the lower front; there is also a matching slipcase somewhat the worse for wear with scratches front and back surface wear around corners and along closed and open edges some dimming around the open edges and a few very small spots of fraying starting at some corners otherwise sturdy and clean. 218pp. The opera is based on the play Nina by Marsollier. Hardcover. Very Good/Slipcase - Good. Folio. Pacini Hardcover
