Edizione originale di quest'opera per agrimensori e geometri del Guerrino dedicata al Firmian. On trouve dans le premier recueil des dessins d'architecture (soubassement du Palais de la Chancellerie à Rome), de beaux lavis techniques (Théorie du Lavis des volumes, Tore en saillie, tore en creux, tores composés), des dessins du Cours de géométrie descriptive (Exercices d'ombres, Projections côtées, Perspective, Perspective linéaire, Ombres linéaires d'un tore Ombre du piédouche, Vis à filet triangulaire) des dessins du Cours de stéréotomie (Croupe biaise, Limon d'escalier en courbe rampante, Coupe des Pierres avec descente biaise, Arche biaise, Voûte sphérique, Berceau coudé, Escalier suspendu), et une dizaine de dessins d'art. Dans le second recueil, on peut découvrir des dessins techniques réalisés dans le cadre des Cours de mécanique et de machines (Engrenages, Engrenages coniques) dont quelques belles aquarelles (Boulons, Pivot et Crapaudine, Meule, Palier graisseur), des dessins d'architecture (les différents ordres, un beau lavis intitulé Projet de Bibliothèque, lavis de Corps de garde, Projet de restaurant, de mairie, de gare), ou des oeuvres réalisées dans le cadre des cours de dessin ou librement (d'après l'antique, un écorché, et se termine avec trois beau lavis de militaires (un cuirassier, un artilleur et un fantassin). Exemplaire bien complet de l'atlas de 60 planches gravée par Tardieu ; surtout, le présent exemplaire propose deux états différents des ff. paginés 203-204 et 205-206 (les feuillets supplémentaires sont insérés à la fin des tables) : la modification concerne les paragraphes 508, 509 et 510, relatifs au problème des tangentes aux intersections de surface. Etat très satisfaisant (dos frotté avec 2 petits taches d'encre, petite fente à un mors, lég. rouss). Elève de Monge et de Hachette, Louis Léger (1784-1864) prit la suite de ses maîtres à Polytechnique dans le domaine de la géométrie descriptive. Comme le précise le Rapport introductif de l'Institut de France, cosigné par Prony, Fourier et Arago, "l'expérience avait conduit de bonne heure aux procédés d'après lesquels les architectes, les tailleurs de pierre et les charpentiers construisent leurs épures ; mais ces méthodes n'ont été réunies en corps de doctrine et débassées de tout empirisme, que de nos jours. C'est à M. Monge qu'on en est redevable". Les Leçons de Géométrie descriptive de Monge étaient néanmoins insatisfaisantes pour les artistes peu familier des méthodes Mathématiques, et le présent ouvrage s'emploie à remédier à ce défaut, notamment par l'usage de planches parfaitement dessinées offrant "dans les plus petits détails, toutes les constructions qu'il faut exécuter pour arriver à la solution finale". All'interno: Della terra, Linee immaginarie, Rappresentazione geometrica di porzioni elementari di superficie terrestre, Rilevamento planimetrico, Planimetria strumenti e loro uso (lunghezze del terreno, squadri agrimensori, Bussola, grafometro, squadro graduato, tavoletta pretoriana, riduzione dei piani, Materiale e strumenti da disegnatore, misurazione, Applicazioni di planimetria, Livellazione ecc... Risultano purtroppo mancanti 40 pagine finali e 37 planches. In buone condizioni.
