‎Vita di san Benedetto‎

‎br. Benedetto nacque a Norcia intorno al 480. Dopo un periodo trascorso a Roma, si ritirò in una grotta nei pressi di Subiaco. Non rimase però a lungo nascosto. Fu richiesto come abate da una comunità di monaci a Vicovaro. Ma fu un'esperienza negativa ed egli fu costretto a tornare nella sua grotta di Subiaco, attorno alla quale organizzò una colonia monastica. L'invidia di un prete del luogo lo indusse ad abbandonare anche Subiaco, e insieme ai discepoli più fedeli si recò a Cassino, sul cui monte fondò, intorno al 529, l'abbazia di Montecassino. Qui donò ai suoi monaci la Regola, e vi morì, secondo la tradizione, il 21 Marzo dell'anno 547, quaranta giorni dopo la scomparsa di sua sorella Scolastica con la quale ebbe comune sepoltura. I Dialoghi riferiscono che spirò in piedi, con le braccia sollevate in preghiera verso il cielo.‎

‎ill., br. Padre Jerzy Popieluszko nacque nel 1947 da una famiglia contadina. Ordinato sacerdote nel 1972, nel 1980 venne assegnato alla chiesa di San Stanislao Kostka. Agli inizi del 1982 diede vita alle Messe per la patria, alle quali ben presto cominciarono a partecipare migliaia di persone. Sempre più inviso al regime, il 19 ottobre 1984 venne rapito da tre ufficiali dei servizi segreti e ucciso. Il 19 dicembre 2009 Benedetto XVI ha autorizzato la Congregazione per le Cause dei Santi a promulgare il decreto riguardante "il martirio del Servo di Dio Jerzy Popieluszko, [...] ucciso in odio alla fede". Il libro contiene le sue "omelie per la patria" e ne illustra la vita e il martirio nel contesto della Polonia del dopoguerra e di Solidarnosc.‎

Di quei disegni, "Simon Guillain, incise diversi soggetti (80) per la pubblicazione "Diverse figure al numero di ottanta, disegnata di penna, nell'hore di ricreatione, da Annibale Carraci, intagliate in rame e cavate dagli originali da Simone Gvilino" stampata a Roma da L. Grigniani nel 1646. La pubblicazione, nota anche col titolo "Le arti di Bologna", ritrae figure popolaresche con spirito scanzonato. Nella prima edizione questi illustravano un trattato sull'imitazione del naturale nell'arte ma lo stesso Guillain ne fece una seconda edizione priva del testo dandole l'attuale titolo di "Arti di Bologna". Questi disegni ebbero in questo modo un'enorme diffusione e moltissimi artisti presero spunto dal modo di ritrarre del Carracci. ‎Über die aus Dresden stammende Malerin, Zeichnerin und Graphikerin Cornelia Gurlitt, Tochter des Architekten und Kunsthistorikers Cornelius Gurlitt (1850-1938), ist kaum etwas bekannt. Sie war in Dresden Schülerin von H. Nadler (1879-1958). Während des Ersten Weltkrieges war sie als Sanitätsschwester in den Kriegslazaretten Metsch/Johannesburg und Wilna-Antokol tätig, wo sie Bekanntschaft mit dem Redakteur und Schriftsteller Paul Fechter schloß, der ihr ein Kapitel in seinem Buch ?An der Wende der Zeit. Menschen und Begegnungen?, herausgegeben 1949, widmete und sie dort ?vielleicht als genialste Begabung der jüngeren expressionistischen Generation? bezeichnete. Freundschaftlich verbunden war sie der Gräfin B. von Kalckreuth (1864-1928), Ehefrau des Malers L. von Kalckreuth (1855-1928). Anregungen erhielt sie durch M. Chagall (1887-1985). Später siedelte sie von Wilna nach Berlin über. Nach dem Ersten Weltkrieg führten Depressionen und möglicherweise auch ausbleibende künstlerische Anerkennung und damit Verkäufe zu ihrem Selbstmord. Cornelia Gurlitt schuf Landschaften und zeichnete die Bettlergestalten Wilnas, malte auch Stilleben. Nach ihrem Tod kümmerte sich ihr jüngerer Bruder Hildebrand (1895-1956), dem sie eng verbunden war, um den künstlerischen Nachlaß. Andere Arbeiten wurden nach dem Tod des Vaters von ihrer Mutter vernichtet.‎
