Vita di Ramakrsna
br. Sri Ramakrsna era un semplice bramino analfabeta che abitava in un piccolo villaggio del Bangladesh. Oggi, in India, è considerato un'incarnazione divina al pari di Buddha, Krsna e Gesù. Per tutta la vita professò la confluenza delle religioni, e praticò nel corso della sua vita i percorsi mistici dell'induismo, dell'Islam, del cristianesimo, del buddhismo. Animato da uno spirito gioioso, trascorreva lunghi e ricorrenti momenti in 'samàdhi', lo stato di coscienza divina in cui si stabilisce una connessione totale con la divinità. Da lui, e dai discepoli che ne diffusero gli insegnamenti (tra cui Swami Vivekananda) ebbe origine il rinascimento spirituale indiano. Romain Rolland, che vide in Ramakrsna un alleato delle sue idee e ambizioni umanitarie, ci accompagna qui in un viaggio che ne attraversa tutta la vita.

Nel 1970 venne nominato Canonico della Cattedrale di Verona. Maestro competente e appassionato del Canto Gregoriano, fervente ministro della Liturgia Eucaristica, rivelò il carisma del discernimento degli spiriti nel Sacramento della Riconciliazione. Offrì la sua esistenza nell'austerità di uno spirito monastico, donando tutto se stesso nel silenzio, nella preghiera, nella sofferenza. Fu chiamato alla liturgia del Cielo il 27 gennaio 1994.

Santa Rita (ca. 1381-1457) visse circa sette secoli fa a Cascia, piccola città dell'Appennino umbro, terra di grande spiritualità e culla nel tempo di molti santi; ma anche terra aspra e inaccessibile, specie durante il lungo inverno, luogo di conflitti e di violenza. Per lei e molti suoi contemporanei la vita era una dura lotta, tra prove e innumerevoli sofferenze. La badessa di Castro. Storia di uno scandalo

Grazie alla scoperta degli atti processuali il libro ricostruisce per la prima volta la vera storia di uno scandalo che nel secondo Cinquecento travolse la badessa di un convento cistercense della cittadina di Castro e il suo vescovo. Una storia resa poi famosa dalla versione letteraria che Stendhal ne diede nel romanzo breve La badessa di Castro. Lo scandalo di quella relazione clandestina minava, oltre all'onore delle famiglie coinvolte, la credibilità stessa della Chiesa. Per questa ragione circolò soltanto una versione edificante della storia, e gli atti processuali sparirono. Riemersero nell'Ottocento per sparire di nuovo, sepolti in una biblioteca. Riletti oggi, ci restituiscono un vivido spaccato del mondo e delle circostanze nelle quali lo scandalo maturò, mostrandoci al vivo cosa fossero la vita claustrale e il dramma delle monacazioni forzate così come le strategie difensive e le sofferenze di chi cercava una via d'uscita a un destino già predeterminato.

Good. <p>Edward Alswoth Ross 1866-1951 was an American sociologist and eugenicist and a major figure in early criminology. Rather remarkably in his last twenty years he grew out of the disreputable views of his earlier life when he was a believer in eugenics and sterilization and opposed immigration to the point of suggesting that America would do better to turn its guns "upon every vessel bringing Japanese to our shores rather than to permit them to land". In the 1930s he was a supporter of Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal program and from 1940 to 1950 he served as chairman of the national committee of the American Civil Liberties Union. ill., br. Esiste una relazione sotterranea che l'attiguità storica e stilistica fra due o più opere dissimula e veicola. Per coglierla è necessario pensare che ciò che nasconde svela e che ciò che svela nasconde, ovvero che l'aspetto storico della ricerca nasconde e svela quanto di archetipico la storia stessa racchiude. Lo nasconde perché alla storia in quanto disciplina non è metodologicamente concesso di andare oltre i propri confini epistemologici e di conseguenza essa ignora tutto ciò che le è (apparentemente) estraneo. Al tempo stesso, non potendo nulla essere estraneo alla storia, essa non può che veicolare e svelare ciò che già comprende in sé. Tale svelamento può compiersi attraverso un "montaggio" che permette un relazionarsi di dati storici e stilistici in grado di fare dialogare le opere su un piano più profondo, strutturale, antropologico. Due dipinti di Marco d'Oggiono, la "Vergine delle rocce" e la "Lucrezia romana", firmati in greco sul verso, costituiscono un significativo caso studio rinascimentale su cui esercitare un tipo di storia dell'arte antropologicamente orientata. ril. Quando ci si imbatte in antiche leggende e agiografie di santi, com'è quella di san Pellegrino in Alpe, bisogna innanzitutto ricordare che questi scritti non si preoccupavano di rappresentare la realtà, ma che avevano una funzione pedagogica, narrando, attestando quel che si doveva sapere o credere attraverso un insieme di immagini dimostrative. Praticamente, correggevano la realtà per trarne quel che serviva a infondere un ammaestramento morale. È un tipo di produzione letteraria non concreta, (come del resto non era realistica la pittura, che raffigurava esclusivamente dei simboli, aderendo a formule convenute), basata su una serie di racconti che riproducevano quel che la società voleva e doveva essere. Il libro contiene la copia anastatica del "Compendio della vita di San Pellegrino" scritto nel 1755 da Pellegrino Rossi, già autore nel 1736 della "Vita di San Geminiano, vescovo e protettore di Modena".

br. Carlo Acutis (Londra 1991 - Monza 2006) sin da bambino fa da "maestro di fede" ai suoi genitori. Da ragazzo è discepolo di sant'Antonio di Padova e di san Francesco d'Assisi. Da adolescente mantiene la promessa di essere sempre unito a Dio, inneggiando alle sue creature. Carlo partecipa alla messa tutti i giorni, sosta a lungo in adorazione eucaristica «per imparare a vivere con gli altri». Genio informatico. Amava intensamente i poveri, gli exra-comunitari, i fedeli di altre religioni come fossero i depositari della fede cristiana. Il libro contiene due testi inediti ritrovati tra gli appunti di Carlo. Alle sue esequie la chiesa parrocchiale era gremita all'inverosimile, da persone di ogni colore, razza e fede. Tutti suoi amici. Sembrava una festa di popoli. Quel giorno un clochard teneva alto un cartello: «Muore giovane colui che al cielo è caro». Il libro contiene due testi inediti di Carlo.

Dopo aver ripetutamente esaminato la mia coscienza davanti a Dio, sono pervenuto alla certezza che le mie forze, per l'età avanzata, non sono più adatte per esercitare in modo adeguato il ministero petrino. [...] per governare la barca di san Pietro e annunciare il Vangelo, è necessario anche il vigore sia del corpo, sia dell'animo, vigore che, negli ultimi mesi, in me è diminuito in modo tale da dover riconoscere la mia incapacità di amministrare bene il ministero a me affidato. Studia a Parigi e, diventato Maestro, entra nell'Ordine Francescano che si sta notevolmente espandendo, prendendo piede anche nell'ambiente colto universitario. In un momento difficile per i Francescani, per contrasti interni ed esterni, Bonaventura viene eletto Generale alla guida dell'Ordine e immediatamente, con fermezza, saggezza e umiltà, da una parte si impegna per difenderlo dalle insidie, lui finissimo teologo, e dall'altra vi opera un profondo rinnovamento, nello spirito più genuino del Fondatore.

Intanto matura nel suo cuore la vocazione di consacrarsi al Signore e nel 1927 entra nell'Ordine di San Giovanni di Dio (Fatebenefratelli) prendendo il nome di Fra Riccardo. Sarà proclamato santo nel 1989.

Articles are featured on numerous aspects of boating "Practical Knots and Splices" "Corsair Cruisers and Cruisaders" "Improved Sea Sleds" "Boating on Arctic Waterways" and much much more. Manufacturers represented include Gar Wood American Car and Foundry Company ACF Dodge and many more. Also included is an extensive listing of "used" yachts and smaller craft. Publication in very good clean condition; modest paper loss to spine abrasions to rear cover. Overall excellent condition. An uncommon vintage publication replete with all manner of costly recreational watercraft with page after page of illustrated advertising featuring options in engines and accessories. The publishers were no doubt oblivious to the impending economic collapse - October 24 1929 - an upheaval that would plunge the country into the long-lasting Depression of the 1930s. Yachts of the financially strapped were to hit the market - at give-away prices - as the economy tanked.
