Titolo in rosso e nero, impresa al titolo con figura femminile davanti ad un torchio e una cassa tipografica (motto Altius labore et favore). Illustrato con complessive 30 tavole f.t. ripiegate, incise in rame (di cui XXVIII num.) Pregevole edizione di raccolta di opere, apparsa per la prima volta nel 1729. Notevoli gli studi sul magnete, sui tubi capillari e sulla coesione; nello stesso volume vennero pubblicati i manoscritti inediti di W. Snellius relativi alla misura dell'arco di meridiano terrestre e condotti a termine alcuni calcoli lasciati incompiuti da Snellius. "Of particular relevance to this collection is ‘Introduction ad Cohaerentiam Corporum Firmorum,' accompanied by a number of plates illustrating fractured test specimens and testing apparatus. Also of relevance is the chapter ‘Tentamen de corporum Duritia' which concerns the hardness of materials" (Roberts and Trent, Bibliotheca Mechanica, p. 232.). "Underlying Musschenbroek's lectures demonstrated with experiments was the experimental philosophy...the principal source of inspiration was Newton, but Galileo, Torricelli, Huygens, Réaumur, and others were important to this school" (D.S.B., IX, p. 596). Petrus van Musschenbroek (Leida 1692-1761), fu celebre fisico noto soprattutto per aver inventato il primo condensatore d'elettricità.
