L'A. inizia parlando della macchina di Archimede che avrebbe sollevato il mondo, investiga poi sulla gravità del globo terracqueo e sui metodi con i quali si può indagare sulla grandezza della Terra, al fine di ricavare dalla mole il peso e da qui la macchina che, in proporzione risponda alla gravità da muovere. Il gesuita Paolo Casati (Piacenza 1617- Parma 1707) fu insegnante di matematica e teologia a Roma, inviato in Svezia col compito di persuadere la regina Cristina ad abbracciare la religione cattolica ed infine rettore dell'Università di Parma. He Studied Theoretical Physics At Leiden Under Paul Ehrenfest. His Phd Thesis Offered Here Dealt With The Quantum Mechanics Of A Rigid Spinning Body And The Group Theory Of The Rotations Of Molecules. During That Time He Also Spent Some Time In Copenhagen With Niels Bohr And Then Worked With Wolfgang Pauli In Zurich. In 1942 During World War Ii Casimir Moved To The Philips Physics Laboratory Natlab. He Retired From Philips In 1972. Although He Spent Much Of His Professional Life In Industry Hendrik Casimir Was One Of The Great Dutch Theoretical Physicists. Casimir Made Many Contributions To Science During His Years In Research From 1931 To 1950. He Helped Found The European Physical Society And Became Its President From 1972 Till 1975. In 1979 He Was One Of The Key Speakers At Cern's 25Th Anniversary Celebrations. While At Natlab In 1948 Casimir Collaborating With Dirk Polder Predicted The Quantum Mechanical Attraction Between Conducting Plates Now Known As The Casimir Effect Which Has Important Consequences. Non è difficile individuare in questa carenza una delle principali cause dell'aumento delle malattie da ipocinesi - come l'obesità - e della maggiore incidenza dei fattori di rischio per la salute in tutte le fasce d'età. Occorre che i bambini imparino a conoscere le proprie potenzialità e capacità psico-fisiche, a saperle usare con intelligenza, a divertirsi in maniera sana, a ridere con i compagni e ad acquisire sane abitudini e corretti stili di vita.
