Dopo aver seguito in diretta, giorno dopo giorno, l'emergenza, Imarisio, Ravizza e Sarzanini sono tornati in Val Seriana, ad Alzano Lombardo, a Nembro e nella stessa Bergamo per riprendere le fila di quanto è successo, rintracciando responsabilità ed errori di quella che non è stata una fatalità. A questo scopo recuperano le testimonianze dei medici di base che già all'inizio di gennaio avevano lanciato i primi allarmi rimasti inascoltati, ricostruiscono, ora dopo ora, gesti e (talvolta mancate) scelte che hanno fatto dell'ospedale di Alzano il più terrificante detonatore del virus e poi, a seguire, raccontano il colpevole rimpallo delle decisioni mentre la gente si ammalava e moriva. A tutto questo aggiungono le storie toccanti di chi invece non ha avuto paura di sacrificarsi per salvare vite altrui e le drammatiche voci inedite di chi ha perso i propri cari in una condizione di assoluto abbandono, impensabile nel XXI secolo. I fatti di Bergamo non possono essere dimenticati. La tesi di fondo è che le teorie sulla eziogenesi dei morbi erano già mature nello scienziato siciliano già dai primi anni '50 del XVI secolo, cioè ancor prima di ricoprire l'incarico di protomedico del regno, allorquando dovette affrontare un'epidemia che colpì Palermo. Nella determinazione delle cause epidemiche Ingrassia guarda, come i suoi predecessori, anche a quelle cosmiche, ma le pone in secondo piano rispetto a quelle materiali, le uniche su cui può agire la medicina. Il volume comprende anche la Parte Quinta dell'Informatione, pubblicata dal protomedico in occasione della recidiva del 1577 e preceduta da un saggio introduttivo, e completa in questo modo la riedizione completa dell'opera più famosa di Ingrassia.

Il volume raccoglie varie edizioni stampate a Pavia del celebre medico e professore di chirurgia, fisiologia, patologia e Chimica a Magonza e Aschaffenburg. Membro dell'Accademia di Erfurt nel 1757, che fu autore di molte opere scientifiche, Karl Strack. La raccolta comprende 5 pubblicazioni stampate a Pavia in tema medico nelle quali l’autore studia varie forme di febbri e malattie esantematiche indicando possibili trattamenti e cercando di riportar il maggior numero di casi realmente osservati. Edizioni non comuni ed in ottime condizioni di conservazione.
