‎DEL REY Lester.‎

‎A Science Fiction Novel: Step to The Stars.‎

‎Jacket and Endpaper Designs By Alex Schomburg. Cecile Matschat Editor. Carl Carmer Consulting Editor. The John C. Winston Company Philadelphia; Toronto 1954. Demy 8vo; pp.xii211i blank; grey cloth blocked and lettered black on spine; end-papers printed pictorially in grey. Fine copy. Loosely laid in are proof pulls of the printed portions of the dust-wrapper on art paper. The pull of the front panel and spine in full colour has been folded in half vertically to allow it to be slipped into the book. The text for the flaps is included as two separate slips. Also laid in is an illustrated advertisement for the volume and three others clipped from an American newspaper this lightly embrowned. The book itself is presumably an advance copy. Currey p.144. We cannot remember seeing any other volume in which the names of the Editor and the Consulting Editor shared the title-page imprint with that of the publisher! An odd - and somewhat crowded - title-page. All books listed by Robert Temple are first editions unless otherwise stated. hardcover‎

‎FARMER Philip Jose.‎

‎Strange Relations.‎

‎Ballantine Books New York 1960. Sm.double post 16mo perfect bound; integral advertisement leaf at end; pp.190ii; glazed white card wrappers cut flush printed in full colour; a.e. yellow; issued without end-papers or dust-wrapper. Fine copy. First edition English issue the wrappers bearing the price label ‘2/6d.’ over the original 35c on the front cover still just visible due to bad positioning of the label. The first edition of the author’s second book. The English importation of first edition sheets appears to have been rather small and this issue is scarce - especially in such nice state. There was no hard-cover issue of this first edition either in England or the U.S.A. Not in Locke’s ‘Spectrum’; Hubin p.185 erroneously dating the publication a year later and giving the Ballantine reference number as ‘507 K’ instead of the earlier ‘391 K’ which is on the cover of this copy. The advertisements run only to ‘319 K’. Hubin does not mention an English issue. All books listed by Robert Temple are first editions unless otherwise stated. unknown‎
