(mm. 352x220), mz. pelle antica (dorso restaurato), piatti in pergamena maculata, fregi e titolo oro su tassello al dorso, tagli a spruzzo, 10 cc.nn., 860 pp.num., 14 cc.nn., grande marca tipografica al frontespizio, capilettera figurati e 1309 belle incisioni su legno nel testo che mostrano l'intera pianta (radici, frutti e fiori), eseguite da Arnaud Nicolai e Gerard Jansen van Kampen sui disegni di Pieter van der Borcht. Rara "edizione originale" di uno dei pi completi ed importanti manuali di botanica del Rinascimento. Frutto della rielaborazione di numerose sue opere precedenti - incluso il celebre Cruydeboeck (stampato nel 1554) - l'A., attraverso l'identificazione di 26 famiglie vegetali, oltre 2000 variet, con l'introduzione di numerose nuove specie (specialmente esotiche), qui menzionate per la prima volta, descrive e riclassifica quelle gi conosciute, dando un nuovo e significativo impulso allo studio della tassonomia e dell'anatomia vegetale. Rembert Dodoens (Malines 1517 - Leida 1585), medico e botanico olandese. Pubblic importanti lavori di medicina e si pu considerare come il fondatore dell'orticoltura in Olanda. Fra le sue opere di botanica, cui deve principalmente la fama, ricordiamo: "Cruydeboek", la cui prima edizione (Anversa 1554) rarissima, ma che fu ristampata nel 1563 e 1581 e tradotta in francese ed inglese; "Stirpium historiae pemptades sex" (Anversa 1583)..(Cfr. Treccani, XIII, p. 86)Nouvelle dition amliore du "Cruydeboek". Le texte est le meme, c'est--dire que, pour le fond, c'est celui de Fuchs, perfectionn et enrichi de toutes les nouvelles dcouvertes. Dodoens y a dcrit et figur mille trois cent quarante plantes, qui sont ranges en autant de classes, suivant leurs usages, et disposes par ordre alphabtique quand ces usages ne sont pas connus au juste. Les planches sont au nombre de treize cent cinq (cos Biographie Mdicale,III, p. 500). Cfr. En 1822, on lui confie, pour vingt ans, la ferme de Roville dont il fait une ferme expérimentale et une école d'agriculture privée. Il introduit la culture du lin en Loraine, montre l'intérêt de la chaux pour améliorer la structure des terres argileuses, et multiplie les façons culturales. Son influence a été considérable à travers ses écrits et surtout ses élèves-stagiaires qui ont vulgarisé ses démarches et ses théories agronomiques".

XI tavv. f.t. incise finemente in rame su carta forte a colori d'epoca, raffiguranti soggetti di piante marine, coralli, madrepore.<BR>Piena pelle marmorizzata coeva con dorso a nervi, scomparti e fregi dorati. Traccia di tassello e titolo; etichetta alla cuffia sup. in carta antica, sguardie marmorizzate, tagli in rosso. <BR>Bella ed importante prima edizione francese stampata da Pierre De Hondt, rarissima da trovarsi colorata d'epoca come nel nostro esemplare. L'autore (1713 - 1763) fu medico e naturalista, formò i propri studi a Padova, viaggiò molto in Italia e in oriente. Quest'opera fu il frutto editoriale delle sue ricerche, in quanto di tutte le sue accurate osservazioni, riuscì a pubblicare solo quelle eseguite sul Mare Adriatico. Ottimo esemplare marginoso. Nota manoscritta alla sguardia iniziale. Minime mende alle cerniere; traccia di tarlo che non lede il testo solo alle ultime 2 carte n.n.<BR>Pritzel 2370; B.M.C. 472; "importante per la nomenclatura" (Stafleu & Cowan). <BR>
