‎America al bivio. Alla ricerca dello spirito della democrazia‎

‎br.

‎Development and Deception Experiences From Eastern and North-Eastern India Volume 2 Vols. Set [Hardcover] Volume 2 Vols. Set‎

‎The Independent India of 1947 was steeped in extreme of poverty, ignorance and illiteracy. An overwhelming proportion of the population was in semi-starving condition, and the literacy had reached less than a fifth. In this situation, the Constitution that came in 1950 opted for a parliamentary form of government, and at the same time promised to the people everything good in this world. A socialist pattern of society, free from exploitation and injustices, was to be established. What happened to the promises ultimately? Could the government provide food and other basic necessities to the semi-starved billions? Was the development achieved with half-a-century’s efforts in the long-run interest of everybody? Did the backward regions and weaker sections get adequate attention from the government? Was the Constitution of India a propaganda material, meant for deceiving the poor masses? These are some of the questions addressed to by this study. India is a vast country with a variety of socio-economic situation. But regionally, at the time of Independence, the Eastern Region was the most backward. Therefore, this study looks into the above questions focusing on the Eastern region. There were only four states at that time, with Bihar the largest and West Bengal the Most developed. By early eighties, the number of states had reached 11; the seven new states being Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Sikkim, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh. This is an in-depth analysis of the pattern of development in all these eastern and north-eastern states over the last five decades, based on a wealth of data collected from a variety of sources, both primary and secondary. The study has brought out the stark reality of extreme of mismanagement of resources and all-pervading corruption and the deception to the masses in the name of development. About The Author:- Kalipada Deb, (b. 1.10.1942) was Professor at the North Bengal University for more than two decades, since 1981, and earlier he headed the department at Gauhati University. ‎Socio-Political Revolution In India : How Beliefs and Ideas Shape National History [Hardcover]‎

‎ABOUT THE BOOK:- Book deals with contradictions in the Indian social system and how these have been gradually reduced through a liberal scientific education system. This created a pan-Indian outlook and helped in the emergence of the Indian nation. Concept of Nation State emerged only in the late nineteenth century in Europe. Book discusses how a belief system has governed the people for ages. A large section of Indian population was self administered through a belief in destiny. Subjected to foreign invasion for centuries, Indian society retreated to the self governing caste system to ensure its continuity. Various phases of the freedom struggle have been discussed. Major achievement was to keep the country united against fissiparous forces by providing an All-India platform. Constitutional method of struggle started from 1885, had a major role in achieving a united India and building up the infrastructure of a modern state. Non–violent movement of Mahatma Gandhi was a continuation of this method. ABOUT THE AUTHOR:- Kalyan Ray is an Economist by training. He joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1965 and worked for thirty-six years. During all these years, he kept his academic interest active and got published number of articles and books. After retirement from service, he is fully engaged in academic work. He is an original thinker and writer and has authored number of books and articles. His writings go beyond the conventional thinking pattern and provides a new look at the socio-economic problems. His book 'A Search For Demand – The Missing Link In Economic Development' (1984), dealt with the importance of market forces in economic development. Failure to understand the working of this led to economic stagnation and a parallel black economy. In the book 'Globalisation or Colonisation' (2004), he pointed out the danger of sudden integration of Indian economy, which was in a developing stage with developed economies. This has led to jobless growth. CONTENTS:- Preface . 9 1. ‎Indian Religious Practices: a Selective Bibliography [Hardcover]‎

‎India’s cultural heritage is rich and diverse due to its civilizational past. It is represented by thousands of monuments, temples and other works of art, such as paintings, sculptures and handicrafts found across the length and breadth of this country. Besides these tangible heritages are the less visible forms of cultural heritages, pertaining to oral traditions, aesthetic and religious beliefs, rituals and festivals, arts, music, folk traditions, dances, theatre forms, performing arts and narrative styles of storytelling. They are the insignia of the rich and diverse, multi-cultural, multi–linguistic cultural heritage of India. These are also called traditional expressions and include oral literature, music, dance, games, mythology, rituals, costumes and crafts. Sometimes the cultural spaces, such as sites for story-telling, rituals and festivals, market places, where traditional cultural activities take place, are also included under the intangible cultural heritage.Quick and easy access to information is vital to the development of varies fields of Knowledge. Therefore, it is essential that relevant information be brought to the attention of the professional, administrators, and researchers who have urgent need of it. In this respect, bibliography plays an important role. There was a time in the past, when it was possible to a scholar to keep himself up to date and well informed on current literature in his field of interest. But due to the increase in the amount of literature available, it has become more and more difficult for him to do so. But for bibliography even a scholar faced with such a vast amount of literature would lose his way, wasting much time before he is able to read even a part of what he is required to study. Much has been written on the Religious practices, and the related fields and the references are many and distributed over numerous journals, monographs, memoirs, Internet database and other publications that are not easily accessible to research workers and the seekers of information. Keeping in view these facts, it has been considered useful to compile a bibliography available. This bibliography on ‘Intangible cultural heritage of India: a selected bibliography. Vol. I: Indian religious practices aimed at covering scholarly literature on concerned and related fields. We sincerely hope that this bibliography would be useful for Scientists, research scholars, Anthropologists, and other personnel related with this field. About The Author:- Profile of Prof. Kamal K. MisraDr. Kamal K. Misra is Professor of Anthropology at the Central University of Hyderabad and is currently on deputation to the Government of India as Director of Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya, Bhopal. He is also holding the additional charge of Director, Anthropological Survey of India, Kolkata. He had his education at Utkal University, Bhubaneswar; Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi; and University of Kent at Canterbury (U.K.). He was the recipient of Utkal University Gold Medal, Commonwealth Academic Staff Fellowship and Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence Award. He was also Visiting Guest Researcher at the University of Bergen in Norway. He had earlier taught at Utkal University, Bhubaneswar and at Austin College, Sherman, Texas (USA).
