Karl Mannheim (1893-1947) was een Hongaars-Duitse socioloog, die de grondlegger is van de kennissociologie. De oorspronkelijke versie van Het generatieprobleem voltooide hij in 1928. Over de vertaler: Hans Driessen is vertaler van onder andere Duitse filosofie. Eerder verschenen van hem vertalingen van Nietzsche, Sloterdijk en Schopenhauer. In 2012 verscheen van zijn hand een nieuwe vertaling van Thomas Manns De Toverberg en voor uitgeverij Vantilt vertaalde hij Wetenschap als beroep en Politiek als beroep van Max Weber.
