Vecd-i vahyin ile, kutlu zemin hürmetine - Kalem-i afvini çek, defter-i isyanimiza, Mustafa askin ile, ashab-i Güzîn hürmetine, Elimiz bos, yüzümüz kapkaradir Allah'im! Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original manuscript unpublished autograph poem signed by Kemal Edib. 20x14 cm. In Ottoman script. 18 verses. This unpublished poem by Kemal Edib is titled 'Su-yi tarih'. Dated only 1361 AH. Signed as 'Bende-i Mevlânâ Kemal Edib' [i.e. Slave to Mawlana Kemal Edib]. Mevlana is a title given to people who are seen as leaders in the religion of Islam or who are successful in Islamic sciences. Although it is frequently used by Islamic scholars and religious leaders especially in the Indian Subcontinent, it is not used much in West Asia. It is often used in Turkish and Persian literature to refer to Jalaluddin Rûmî and is therefore mistakenly understood as part of that person's name or as his own specific nickname or title. Derived from the word Mawla, this word means "our master". Although the Swahili language in Africa, like other languages, derives the word from its origin in Arabic, it uses it in a much more general sense: the word is generally given to people respected by their community and does not have to bear religious emphasis, it can be used in a secular context. In this signature, the poet might this title to refer to Rumi. Kemal Edip Kürkçüoglu, (1902-1977), who had taught history, literature, and Islamic mysticism in high schools and faculties and done administrative services, was a poet and scholar whose fifteen books about religion, history, and literature had been published. Very Good Turkish Original report with autograph signatures and notes. 1 p. 23 x 17 cm. In Turkish. It's a 'play report' of Ulvi Uraz Theater in Üsküdar, Baglarbasi district in Istanbul. Dated 8/7/1970. Written play's name: Murtaza. As stage manager (rejisör) signed by Ulvi Ural (owner of theater house) and as stage administrator signed by famous Turkish actor Kemal Sunal, (1944-2000). He was a Turkish actor. With Hababam Sinifi, Kapicilar Krali and Davaro, Sunal gained large popularity amongst Turkish cinema goers and was famed for his character "Saban", a role he frequently played. His characters in films often reflected the problems common Turkish people faced in their country. Scarce.

To a journalist who had solicited a piece for his newspaper: "Sir - I shall be happy to receive you at any time that it may suit your convenience to call at no 9 Trinita dei Monti where I lodge. I regret that it is not in my power to offer any contribution to your paper […]". - Fanny Kemble had in 1834 married the American planter and slave owner Pierce Mease Butler (1806-67). When Butler inherited his father's property, the family temporarily moved to the Georgia plantations in the winter of 1838/39. Kemble was deeply affected by the inhumane treatment of the slaves and brought her observations and criticism to paper. A publication was prevented by her husband, who threatened Kemble with taking custody of their daughters. Kemble left Butler in 1846, and the marriage was divorced in 1849. Only in 1863, after the start of the American Civil War and when her daughters had reached their majority, did Fanny Kemble publish her "Journal of a Residence on a Georgian Plantation in 1838-1839", which aligned her with the abolitionist cause. - Annotation "Mrs. Butler" at the top of the page, probably by the recipient. The lower part of the leaf with the signature has been cut out. Notes by a former collector.

Daraus ergibt sich mit zwingender Notwenigkeit als erste und wichtigste Aufgabe aller deutschen Politik die Pflicht, dafür zu sorgen, daß unser Vaterland wieder ein Machtfaktor auf dieser Erde wird [...]". Dankt einem Freund “für das geliehene Buch, das ich Dir hiermit retournire” und wünscht viel Glück im neuen Jahr. - Der aus Wien stammende Maler ließ sich nach einem Studium an der Akademie der bildenden Künste in Wien und zahlreichen, ihn häufig nach Rom und Paris führenden Studienreisen als freischaffender Künstler in Wien nieder, wo seine Werke - Landschaften, Bildnisse, figurale und religiöse Kompositionen - häufig von den Wiener Städtischen Sammlungen erworben wurden. Für sein Schaffen wurde Kempf-Hartenkampf u.a. mit der Großen goldenen Ehrenmedaille des Wiener Künstlerhauses, dem Meisterpreis der Stadt Wien, dem Waldmüllerpreis und dem Staatspreis ausgezeichnet. Besondere Anerkennung wurde ihm für seine “trefflichen Genreporträts” (Thieme/B. XX, 145) - u. a. des Kupferstechers und Radierers William Unger (1837-1932) und des Architekten Otto Wagner (1841-1918) - zuteil.

Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "Ich würde auch über die doppelte Route zum gleichen Ort [...]". - An ambitious landscape painter, Kendell travelled England, Italy and Switzerland; many of her works display the mountaineous scenery she encountered on her trips. Her painting of the fishing village Clovelly in Devonshire was acquired by German Emperor Wilhelm II in 1892. - Traces of a postmark; traces of 2 folds near lower right corner; a few small ink spots. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.

M. mir gemachte Mittheilung bezüglich der Auffindung vermutlicher Ueberreste einer Villa des Augustus auf Capri meinen verbindlichsten Dank mit dem Hinzufügen aus, daß ich das bezeichnete Schreiben an den 1. Sekretair des hiesigen Archäologischen Instituts Herrn Professor Dr. Henzen abgegeben habe". - Kendell wirkte unter Bismarck als preußischer Gesandter in Konstantinopel und Rom. This U.S. Air Force career officer served with the American Expeditionary Forces 1919-20 and in the Panama Canal Zone in the 1930s -- as a DENTIST! Appointed Chief of Dental Services in the Office of the Air Surgeon in 1942 he rose up through the ranks to major general 1949 and is considered a pioneer in developing the Army Air Force Dental Services program. Full signature and "Major General U.S.A.F. DC" in black ink irregularly clipped heavy stock 3½" X 1" slip n.y. post 1949. Very good. Small tape stain at each end one touching the "G" in "George" the other the "" of the parentheses. Nice example. unknown

Three Items From Probably Her First Show At A Commercial Art Gallery. Small B/W Poster For Her Exhibit March 3 To April 6 At The Wooden Horse Gallery Year Not Indicated But Is 1963 With Reception For The Artist March 3 At 2-5 Pm 1963 S. Coast Blvd. Laguna Beach Year And Address Were Indeed The Same. Poster Printed In Black And White With Design Above White Space Below All With 9 Lines Of Lettering By Sister Mary Corita. With The Unique Large Wooden Sign For The Exhibit At The Gallery About 1' X 4' With Her Name Signed By Her In Painted Black Letters On White As Was The Practice At The Gallery For All Exhibiting Artists. The Poster Is Quite Scarce The Sign Is Unique. Also With A Signed Postcard Sister Mary Corita's "To Understand ." Etc. Postmarked November 1965 Addressed To Gallery Owner Jae Carmichael Of The Wooden Horse Gallery Requesting Return Of Any Unsold Prints Of Hers Signed "Smc". 1 S. auf Doppelblatt. 8vo. "Also ich sitze in der Patsche! Mein Mann, der nach Ischl reisen musste, kommt erst morgen zurück und ich hätte für heute Abend keinen Begleiter [...]". Des weiteren mit der Bitte um Verschiebung ihres Auftrittes, sofern dies keinerlei Unannehmlichkeiten verursache, da sie erkältet sei und zudem am Tag darauf "die Festvorstellung 'Zigeunerbaron' wo ich die heikle Arsena-Wurz'n singe" stattfinde. - Dora Keplinger debütierte 1900 im Theater an der Wien, das sie nach nur kurzer Zeit wieder verließ, um am Landestheater in Linz aufzutreten. 1902 jedoch wieder ans Theater an der Wien zurückkehrend, debütierte "die schmucke Darstellerin am 18. September als 'Arsena' im 'Zigeunerbaron' [...]" (Eisenberg, Gr. biogr. Lex. der dt. Bühne im 19. Jh., zit. n. DBA I 640, 39). 1903 heiratete die beliebte Soubrette den Kapellmeister Sigmund Eibenschütz, Direktor des Theaters an der Wien; 1907 wechselte sie an das Carltheater. "Keplinger feierte vor allem in Operetten von Leo Fall große Erfolge und galt als eine der führenden Operettensängerinnen ihrer Zeit. Nach dem Tod ihres Mannes leitete sie als dessen Nachfolgerin das Carltheater bis zu seiner Schließung 1929 und war danach noch als Pädagogin tätig" (ÖML, s. v.). 1955 ehrte sie der Wiener Gemeinderat mit der "Keplingergasse" im 13.
