4 SS. auf Doppelblatt. Kl.-8vo. An einen namentlich nicht genannten Adressaten: "[...] Gegen Haller [?] habe ich das Bedenken, daß fast Niemand von euch dort sein wird, ich auch nicht. Frankfurt a/M vor [?] Wiesbaden sind besser, vielleicht auch besser das Jubiläum von Virchow am 17. Octbr. in Berlin [...]". - Erwähnt weiters Wilhelm Heinrich Erb und Paul Ehrlich und macht Vorschläge zu Referaten: "[...] Prof. Hoppe (Prag), über das Tubercolum [...] GehRath Pfleger [?]: Ueber Makrobiotik [...]". - Ernst von Leyden habilitierte sich 1863 und folgte zwei Jahre darauf einem Ruf an die Innere Klinik in Königsberg, gab damit seine militärärztliche Laufbahn als Stabsarzt auf und erhielt 1872 den Lehrstuhl für Innere Medizin an der neuen Reichsuniversität Straßburg. Seit 1876 war er Professor der propädeutischen Inneren Medizin in Berlin und leitete von 1885 bis 1907 die Erste Medizinische Klinik. Leyden befaßte sich vorwiegend mit der Pathologie des Herzens, der Lunge, der Niere und des Nervensystems sowie mit Diätetik und sozialhygienischen Fragen. - Die Unterschrift am Kopf der Recto-Seite von Bl. 1, dort auch etwas eingerissen; etwas knittrig und gebräunt.

Teilt Albert Michaelsen mit, dass er keinerlei Informationen über Gustav Mangold, der sich in Südafrika aufhält, hat und empfiehlt ihm, sich an Hermannus Jacob Kiewiet de Jonge zu wenden: "[...] daß ich zu meinem größten Bedauern Ihnen die gewünschte Auskunft über Herrn Dr. phil. et med. Gustav Mangold nicht erteilen kann. Doch möchte ich Ihnen empfehlen, sich an Herrn Dr. Kiewiet de Jonge in Dordrecht zu wenden, unter dessen Leitung sich ein Comité gebildet hat, das Erkundigungen über in Süd-Afrika weilende Europäer einzieht". - Leyds war zwischen 1884 und 1889 Generalstaatsanwalt der Südafrikanischen Republik und von 1889 bis 1898 Staatssekretär. Darüber hinaus fungierte er während des Zweiten Burenkriegs (1898-1902) als Botschafter in Brüssel, wobei er versuchte, von den europäischen Mächten Unterstützung für die Anliegen der Buren gegenüber Großbritannien zu gewinnen. - Auf Briefpapier der "Gezandschaft van de Zuid-Afrikaansche Republiek".

A heart-wrenching and powerful story about a Chinese man who overcame many hurdles to escape an authoritarian government to ultimately land in Brazil, where he and his family fared well in peace. "Born in 1933, Li Mu, pseudonym of Dr. Yeung Chi Bor, is a Chinese-Brazilian doctor and acupuncturist. He grew up in the Chinese province of Guangdong under the Chinese Communist Regime. Targeted by the authorities as 'landlords', Yeung and his family were persecuted, defamed, tortured, and had their possessions confiscated. His father was executed and he was sent to labor camps. Throughout his struggle for survival, Yeung bore witness to one of the worst atrocities in history. He ultimately escaped as a refugee into Hong Kong in 1962 and, in 1977, made a great leap into the unknown, immigrating to Brazil at the age of 44. Dr. Yeung has three daughters and one son, and lives with his wife in the Brazilian city of Belo Horizonte, in the state of Minas Gerais."

Le Clos-Marie Roscoff 30 Août 1924 21 x 27.50 cm 1 page recto verso Autograph letter dated from Liane de Pougy addressed to the French archaeologist curator of the Saint-Germain museum and professor of art history at the École du Louvre Salomon Reinach 56 lines written in blue ink on a recto verso leaf written from her property Clos-Marie in Roscoff where the famous courtesan stayed until 1926. A small tear in the right margin of the letter and inherent to the folding of the missive. Liane de Pougy does not have time to be bored in her Roscoff property: ""J'écris beaucoup dans mes cahiers fleuris et je reçois des visites"" I write a lot in my flowered notebooks and I receive visits where her great friend Mathilde de Morny known as ""Missy"" famous Amazon of Tout-Paris comes to see her: ""Missy-Missou est revenue nous voir avec 2 amis. C'est bien elle-lui que vous avez vu à l'Opéra. Il ou elle eût été charmée de vous saluer mais ne vous as pas perçu. Il est reparti emmenant Max Jacob qui est déjà revenu."" Missy-Missou came back to see us with 2 friends. It is indeed she-he that you saw at the Opera. He or she would have been delighted to greet you but did not see you. He left taking Max Jacob who has already returned. Liane de Pougy receives many people: ""Nous attendons le jeune de Jacques de Maleisgne avec sa femme son nègre des animaux - des instruments banjo etc. Vous voyez qu'il y a de quoi s'occuper."" We are expecting young Jacques de Maleisgne with his wife his negro animals - instruments banjo etc. You see there is plenty to keep busy. complains about her health affected by weather conditions: ""En plus de mes occupations j'ai des douleurs alimentées par les pluies incessantes cependant ce matin ma fenêtre est ouverte sur un paysage riant."" In addition to my occupations I have pains fed by incessant rains however this morning my window is open on a smiling landscape. while appreciating with a certain melancholy the beauties of nature surrounding her: ""Les rosiers poussent drus leurs fleurs persistent les grenouilles et les limaces sont heureuses baveuses et ne demandent plus de roi ! A small tear in the right-hand margin of the letter inherent in the enveloping of the missive; another slight tear at the foot without affecting the text. Liane de Pougy marvels at the youthful vigor of Reinach who had just turned 65: ' Many happy returns for your 65 years which find you so young so fresh so green with such playful studious feelings. My friend your youthful morals hold the secret of your physical youth—as Rosa Josepha said one sustains the other one preserves the other—and this seen head-on. ' while magnifying his radiant intelligence: 'To no longer produce but to sit atop the high throne of your trophies formed by all you have wrested from instinct to sacrifice to intellectuality. Why do people always say a well of knowledge instead of a luminous column a sky a sun a star etc.—in short something that makes us lift our heads' She is waiting for her friend and former lover the terrible and unfaithful Natalie Clifford-Barney:  'Natalie plans to come to Clos at the end of September. She has a wound to heal here—time fortunately has already done part of the work! I have sensitive feelings and like a musketeer a good heart but a bad temper. This is the 1st time the amazon has truly aimed at me. Let us speak of it no more'. Liane firmly expresses her wish not to be pitied or consoled for her romantic troubles:  'I have suffered in silence but without resignation. Do not speak of this to Nathanaël. Anläßlich Lichnowskys Beerdigung hielt Wilhelm Emmanuel von Ketteler seine berühmte Rede gegen den Radikalismus. Mit welcher gespannten Ungeduld können Sie sich denken, da von dem Resultate Ihrer Unterhandlungen mein Leben und meine Ehre abhängt. Ich bleibe noch Morgen, als[o] Montag, hier, und fahre erst Morgen Nachts nach Neustadt zurück. Sendet Grüße aus Rom an Baron Oppenheimer. - Fehlstelle mit Textverlust durch Ausschnitt der Briefmarke. - Lichnowsky lebte nach ihrer Heirat mit Karl Max von Lichnowsky (1904) als Schriftstellerin in Schlesien und Berlin und 1912-14 in London, wo sie Mittelpunkt eines literarischen Kreises war. 1937 heiratete sie in zweiter Ehe Sir Ralph Harding Peto. Sie wurde von den Nationalsozialisten an der Ausreise aus Deutschland gehindert, weigerte sich, der Reichsschrifttumskammer beizutreten, und publizierte zehn Jahre lang nicht. Bei Kriegsende wurde sie aus Schlesien vertrieben und kehrte nach London zurück.

Armee-Oberkommando in Monza: "Der Diurnist Cesare Zamara [...] ist bereits zu mehreren Malen mit seinem Gesuche um Aufnahme in den Dienst der öffentlichen Ordnung als Alunno Ufficiale perlustratore, theils wegen nicht nachgewiesenen Studien der Grammatikalklassen, theils wegen der über ihn vom Direktor der öffentlichen Ordnung erstatteten minder vortheilhaften Auskünfte und auch aus höheren Dienstesrücksichten von diesem Militär-Gouvernement abgewiesen worden [...]". - Lichnowsky wurde 1848 zum Feldzeugmeister ernannt, kommandierte im Feldzug 1848/49 eine Division in Italien und übernahm 1850 das Festungskommando in Verona, das er bis zu seiner Pensionierung 1859 als Feldzeugmeister führte. - Bl. 2 verso mit eigenh.
