Confirming a bill of sale ("final concord") from 12 November 1578, according to which John Dawnay has sold in "Cowycke" (Cowick, Yorkshire) to Radinus Cade at a a price of 40 pounds sterling. It was early acquired as a royal fiefdom by the Dawnay family (later Viscounts Downe), who also owned land in the neighborhood. - Headed by the Queen's title: "Elizabeth dei gratia Anglie Francie & hibernie Regina fidei defensor &c". [Leopold I] - Santinelli, Hieronymus (Pseud.?).
Panegiris Leopoldi Primi Roman. Imperat. sacrae scripturae verbis contexta. Authore Hieron. Santinelli Bibliothecae Caesareo Regiae Vindobonae praefecto viro eruditissimo [...]. [Probably Austria, second half of the 17th century?].
Folio (ca. 235 x 297 mm). (36) pp. Calligraphical Latin manuscript on vellum. With handwritten cover title. A Biblical cento in praise of Emperor Leopold I, ostensibly composed by "Hieronimo Santinelli, the most learned prefect of the Viennese Imperial and Royal Court Library". In fact, the head librarians during Leopold's rule were Matthäus Mauchter (1650-63), Peter Lambeck (1663-80), Daniel Nessel (1680-1700), Hermann von Grevenbruck (1700-05), and Johann Benedikt Gentilotti (1705-23), none of whom are likely to have used what appears to be a pseudonym. Possibly the name alludes to the Italian poet, alchemist and adventurer Francesco Maria Santinelli (1627-97), a marquis who also served as a councillor in the chamber of Leopold I. - A later note on the badly rubbed title-page states that this manuscript, an autograph of the author, was presented by Emperor Joseph II to Othmar Conrad, provost and archivist of Rajhrad monastery near Brno during the 1760s. - Exterior quite stained and dusty; occasional waterstains. A pen-and-ink frontispiece showing the double-headed Imperial eagle is all but erased and further obscured by numerous broad pen tests. A curious survival.

Oddi, Silvio Kardinal, vatikanischer Diplomat und Kurienkardinal (1910-2001).
Ms. Brief mit eigenh. U. Bern, 8. XII. 1952.
1 S. 4to. Briefkopf.

Paul VI., Papst (d. i. Giovanni Montini, 1897-1978).
Ms. Brief mit eigenh. U. ("GB Montini"). Vatikan, 18. VII. 1951.
1½ SS. 4to.

Vienna, 1. IX. 1807.
4to (192 x 217 mm). 39 written pages on 24 leaves. With 29 numbered watercolour plates (3 folding, 7 fragmentary). Contemporary half calf over marbled boards with giltstamped spine and spine label. Patterned endpapers. A highly appealing manuscript on saddlery from Marshal Radetzky's library, discussing the production and characteristics of German and Hungarian saddles with the exact measurements of each component. Possibly not written by Radetzky himself but commissioned by him at a time when he was applying himself to military studies and editing his memoirs ("Denkschriften"), the manuscript is composed in extremely neat handwriting, likely by a secretary. The charming watercolours depict complete saddles seen from various perspectives as well as several stages of their construction and separate elements such as straps and screws. - Radetzky's bookplate to front pastedown. A note about the length of a saddle flap in a different handwriting, this likely by Radetzky himself, is loosely inserted. - Extremities lightly bumped; spine label a little rubbed. Paper evenly browned throughout; plates crisp and clean. Seven plates are preserved only in fragments: substantial parts are cut out of and lacking from three plates; of four others only the cut-out figures remain, which are loosely inserted.
