‎Autograph letter / document sealed as 'vâli' [i.e. governor] 'Abidin' sent to Ottoman command of Chios Island.‎

‎Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original autograph document/letter sealed by Abidin Pasha. 33x21 cm. In Ottoman script. 1 p. Seven lines. With a letterhead of The Province of Cezâyir-i Bahr-i Sefîd [i.e. The province of the Mediterranean Island and Aegean Archipelago]. Abidin Pasha was an Albanian patriot, politician, ideologue and diplomat; and the governor of Rhodes, Aden, Algeria, Ankara, and Adana. As a rilindas involved in the Albanian National Awakening, he was one of the founders of the League of Prizren and its chief representative for Epirus (1878). Dino was one of the main promoters in the need for the creation of the Autonomous Albanian Vilayet under the Ottoman suzerainty, and later a contributor to Albanian independence. Abedin Dino was from Chameria and he was born in Preveza on March 23, 1843, to one of the most notable and noble families of the city (the Dino family). During the Great Eastern Crisis Dino was one of ten signatories to a memorandum addressed to Berlin Congress hosts chancellor Bismarck and Count Andrassy on 20 June 1878 calling for reforms and Albanians to remain in the Ottoman state with their rights, desires, interests, and traditions being respected. Dino strongly supported the territorial integrity of Albanian inhabited lands remaining within the Ottoman state. Together with Abdul Frashëri, Vesel Dino, and Mehmet Ali Vrioni he established local League branches of the Albanian Committee of Janina and Assembly of Preveza. On 11 January 1879, a meeting in Preveza of Albanian notables and leaders at Dino's house agreed to oppose Epirus joining Greece, even though military force if an unsatisfactory agreement was imposed by the Great Powers and to express that view to the Berlin Congress. The free movement of Dino in Preveza and his appointment as a commissioner for delineating the border was representative of the support the Ottoman Empire gave to the League during this time. From 10 June - 12 September 1880 Dino briefly served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Ottoman Empire for four months and was elevated to the rank of Pasha, becoming known as Abedin Pasha. Abdul Hamid II appointed Dino as he wanted to strengthen the Ottoman position during negotiations about the border with Greece. [.] In part due to his efforts and activities, the Vilayet of Janina did not join Greece and remained within the Ottoman Empire until 1912. He became a wâli (governor) of Aden and from 1904 Vizier (minister) in the Ottoman government headed by fellow Albanian Avlonyali Mehmed Ferid Pasha. Abedin Bej Dino was also an evaluated poet, publisher, writer, and translator. He wrote many songs, including the famous one "Këngë për Shqipërin" (alb. "Song for Albania", in 1879), "Të nxiturit e Shqipërisë duke përpjeturë" (1880), "Poema e Shenjtë" (Poema of Saint, 1884), "Poetry" (1888). He translated on Albanian language poems of a 13th-century Persian poet, and Sufi mystic Rumi. His son, Rasih Abidinpasazâde Dino (who has a book titled 'Üç Mektup') was a co-founder of the first Albanian school in the city of Preveza and in 1913 he was the head of the delegation of Albania that signed the Treaty of London that recognized Albania an independent state. Abidin Pasha is the grandfather of famous Turkish painter Abidin Dino, (1913-1993).‎

Millî Mecmua was started to be published by Mehmed Mesih (Akyigit) in Istanbul (1 Tesrînisâni 1339/1 November 1923) immediately after the declaration of the Republic. The journal, which takes the republic and modernization as its principle, coincided with a period in which important reforms were carried out, and parallel to the developments experienced, its attitude has reached a point where reforms are defended separately from a general-framed adoption. They supported the Letter Revolution, except for Mehmed Fuad's article, which drew attention to the negative consequences of the Letter Revolution in 1928. The magazine conducted a survey on "Islam in the Face of the Turkish Revolution", and Ismail Hakki (Baltacioglu), in his response to this questionnaire, suggested a reform in religion and made some proposals such as reading the call to prayer (Ezân) in Turkish and raising the places of prostration in mosques. The editorials of the journal were originally written by Yahya Saim and Hasan Âli (Yücel), and then regularly by Mehmed Mesih. In the magazine, there are some articles such as "Translation Period" by Hüseyin Namik, who deals with the translation issue, as well as translations of the works of writers and poets such as Anatole France and Nietzche.‎

‎KEMAL EDIB [KÜRKÇÜOGLU], (Turkish poet), (1902-1977).‎

‎Unpublished autograph poem signed 'Bende-i Mevlânâ Kemal Edib'.‎

‎Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original manuscript unpublished autograph poem signed by Kemal Edib. 20x14 cm. In Ottoman script. 18 verses. This unpublished poem by Kemal Edib is titled 'Su-yi tarih'. Dated only 1361 AH. Signed as 'Bende-i Mevlânâ Kemal Edib' [i.e. Slave to Mawlana Kemal Edib]. Mevlana is a title given to people who are seen as leaders in the religion of Islam or who are successful in Islamic sciences. Although it is frequently used by Islamic scholars and religious leaders especially in the Indian Subcontinent, it is not used much in West Asia. It is often used in Turkish and Persian literature to refer to Jalaluddin Rûmî and is therefore mistakenly understood as part of that person's name or as his own specific nickname or title. Derived from the word Mawla, this word means "our master". Although the Swahili language in Africa, like other languages, derives the word from its origin in Arabic, it uses it in a much more general sense: the word is generally given to people respected by their community and does not have to bear religious emphasis, it can be used in a secular context. In this signature, the poet might this title to refer to Rumi. Kemal Edip Kürkçüoglu, (1902-1977), who had taught history, literature, and Islamic mysticism in high schools and faculties and done administrative services, was a poet and scholar whose fifteen books about religion, history, and literature had been published. ‎Autograph document signed 'Aubert du Bayet', with six other co-signatures by other politic figures.‎

‎Very Good French Original manuscript autograph document signed by Jean-Baptiste Annibal Aubert du Bayet. 31,5x20,5 cm. In French. 1 p. With a blind-stamped seal. A legible and fine handwritten letter. English: General Aubert du Bayet, Ambassador of the French Republic near the Othomane gate, the departure of the company of Artillery, light employee in the instruction of the Turks and that of the French officers previously employed or destined to the service of the great lord; Decrees that the citizen Collin, former major of the infantry who came to Constantinople after authorization from the government, will return to France shortly and that he will benefit for this purpose from the building which will lead the company of light artillery to Ancona [sic. Angora - Ankara]. Jean-Baptiste Annibal Aubert du Bayet (19 August 1759, Louisiana - 17 December 1797, Istanbul) was a French General and politician during the period of the French Revolution. Aubert du Bayet was born in Baton-Rouge in the French American colony of Louisiana in 1759. Aubert du Bayet participated in the campaigns in America during the American Revolutionary War. Aubert du Bayet arrived in France at the beginning of the Revolution, but was initially hostile to revolutionary ideas. While in Metz, as a young Captain, he published an anti-Jewish pamphlet entitled Le cri du citoyen contre les Juifs. However, he soon saw that it could serve his ambitions. He became a member of the legislature in 1791. Aubert du Bayet was President of the French National Assembly (the "Legislative Assembly") from 8 July 1792 to 22 July 1792. In 1793, he served as General of Brigade in the heroic defense of Mayence in 1793, when he finally had to surrender to the Prussian Army. He then seconded Hoche in Vendée in the fight against the Chouans in the War in the Vendée. He then became Minister of Defense of France ("Minister of War") from 3 November 1795 to 8 February 1796. In 1796, General Aubert du Bayet was appointed as ambassador ("Minister of the Republic") to the Ottoman Empire. He was sent to the Ottoman court with artillery equipment, and French artillerymen and engineers to help with the development of the Ottoman arsenals and foundries. Infantry and cavalry officers were also to train the Spahis and Janissaries, but they were frustrated by the opposition of the Janissaries. Ironically, some of these troops, trained to Western methods, were successfully employed against the French troops of Napoleon a few years later under Sir Sydney Smith at the Siege of Saint-Jean d'Acre in 1799. Their behaviour delighted Selim III, and upon their return, they were named Nizam-gedittes or "New Regulars", but they were eventually slaughtered and dispersed by the Janissaries and conservative clerics and politicians, leading to the deposition of Selim III. Aubert du Bayet died of fever in 1797, in Constantinople. Co-signed by six politic figures in its period, however, they cannot be determined. Very rare.‎

‎MOUSTAPHA RECHID PASHA THE GREAT, (Ottoman statesman and diplomat), (1800-1858).‎

Born in Constantinople (now Istanbul) in 1800, Mustafa Resid entered public service at an early age and rose rapidly, becoming ambassador to France (1834) and to the United Kingdom (1836), minister for foreign affairs (1837), and once again ambassador to the United Kingdom (1838) and to France (1841). In the settlement of the Oriental Crisis of 1840, and during the Crimean War and the ensuing peace negotiations, he rendered important diplomatic services to the Ottoman state. He returned a third time as ambassador to France in 1843. Between 1845 and 1857, he held the office of Grand Vizier six times. One of the greatest and most versatile statesmen of his time, thoroughly acquainted with European politics and well-versed in national and international affairs, he was a convinced partisan for reform and the principal author of the legislative remodeling of the Ottoman administration known as Tanzimat. His efforts to promote reforms within the government led to the advancement of the careers of many other reformers, such as Fuad Pasha and Mehmed Emin Âli Pasha. After the conclusion of the Oriental Crisis of 1840 due to Muhammad Ali in Egypt, Muhammad Ali Pasha bribed the Ottoman Porte to remove Mustafa Rechid Pasha from his post as Foreign Minister. He returned to his post as Ambassador to Paris soon after where he mainly focused his efforts on solving the Lebanon Question, which resulted from a dispute between a Christian group called the Maronites based out of Lebanon and an extremist Shia group called the Druzes who came from Syria and Lebanon.‎

‎HALIDE NUSRET ZORLUTUNA, (Turkish female poet), (1901-1984).‎

‎Autograph poem signed 'Halide Nusret Zorlutuna' titled 'Kerkük'e gazel'.‎

‎Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original manuscript autograph poem signed by Halide Nusret Zorlutuna. 23,521 cm. In Ottoman script. 17 lines. Some corrections. 1 p. Zorlutuna was a Turkish female poet. She is referred to as "the mother of women writers". She has syllabic poems and novels written in basic spoken Turkish. She is the mother of novelist Emine Isinsu, elder sister of writer Ismet Kür (1916-2013), and aunt of writer Pinar Kür. This manuscript probably has an early sketch of her poem titled 'Kerkük'e gazel' [i.e. Ghazal to Kirkuk]. It has a few differences of the poem's last form. It is known that she lived in Kirkuk with her officer father for a while and she loved this city, where a large number of Turcomans lived. An annotation on the bottom of the paper with two lines including an emotional inscription to her brother who passed away while he was in Kirkuk and to her other relatives and friends. Under the annotation a signature: 'H. N. Z.'.‎
