‎[Autograph letter signed 'Sedad Simavi' addressed to 'Ismail Hakki Bey'].‎

‎Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original autograph letter signed 'Sedad Simavi' addressed to 'Ismail Hakki Bey' who was owner a vast newsstand in Eskisehir city in Turkey. 25x28 cm. In Ottoman script. 1 p., almost full. Letterhead "Resimli Gazete [i.e. Illustrated Newspaper]: Idaresi: Istanbul Ankara Cattessinde [sic] hususi idare.; Abone: Türkiye için Senelik 500, Alti aylik 250, üç aylik 130 kurustur.". Sealed as well (Resimli Gazete). Simavi was a Turkish journalist, writer and film director. He co-founded the Turkish Journalists' Association in 1946, and the Hürriyet newspaper in 1948. He was also a political cartoonist, and as well as plays and screenplays he also wrote a novel, Fuji-Yama (1944), and non-fiction books. He published around 60 books in total. Sedat Simavi died on 11 December 1953, and was buried at Kanlica Cemetery in Istanbul. The Sedat Simavi Literature Award, along with Sedat Simavi awards in other categories, is awarded annually by the Sedat Simavi Foundation since 1977. The Turkish Journalists' Association awards the Sedat Simavi Journalism Award. (Wikipedia).‎

April und die Sendung Ihrer Studie 'Ernst Jünger und die Linie' zu danken. Sie sind so freundlich, meinem inzwischen schon fast 30 Jahre alt gewordenen Buch 'Verlust der Mitte' 'eine an Spengler erinnernde Weite und Wucht des Zugriffes' zuzusprechen [...] Bald nach meiner Berufung nach München 1951 hat mich Alois Dempf, mein Kollege an der Universität, den 'neuen Spengler' genannt [...] Das hat mich damals tief gefreut und so freut mich auch die Einstufung, die Sie mir geben, aufrichtig. ‎- Chicago 23 octobre 1902, 14x8,8cm, une carte postale. - Autograph signed postcard sent from Chicago and addressed to Émile Mignard Chicago 23 October 1902 14 x 8,8 cm | one postcard Handwritten signed postcard from Victor Segalen, sent from Chicago and addressed to Emile Mignard. A few lines written in pencil in the corner of the black and white photographic reproduction of a view of South Water Street in Chicago, handwritten address on the verso. Some minor stains and folding. Emile Mignard (1878-1966), also a doctor and Brest-born, was one of Segalen's closest friends of youth whom he met at the Jesuit Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours School in Brest. The writer interacted with this comrade in an abundant and closely followed correspondence in which he described, with humour and intimacy, his daily life in all corners of the world. It was at Mignard's wedding, on 15 February 1905, that Segalen met his wife, Yvonne Hébert. This postcard had been addressed by Segalen to his friend from Chicago as he travelled to Tahiti via San Francisco. It is the first time that the Breton has been to the United States and his impressions are rather pessimistic: "Chicago. The deplorable pinnacle of acute budding Americanism. Imagine a mass of sandstone that has crystallised following the Cubic system. A childlike museum: close to the Apollo Belvedere a reproduction of the Hôtel des Postes. I leave tonight for a straight through journey to San Francisco where I will be on Tuesday at 4am." [FRENCH VERSION FOLLOWS] Carte postale autographe signée de Victor Segalen, envoyée depuis Chicago et adressée à Emile Mignard. Quelques lignes rédigées au crayon de papier au coin de la reproduction photographique en noir et blanc d'une vue de la South Water Street à Chicago, adresse manuscrite du correspondant au verso. Quelques taches et pliures sans gravité. Emile Mignard (1878-1966), lui aussi médecin et brestois, fut l'un des plus proches amis de jeunesse de Segalen qu'il rencontra au collège des Jésuites Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours, à Brest. L'écrivain entretint avec ce camarade une correspondance foisonnante et très suivie dans laquelle il décrivit avec humour et intimité son quotidien aux quatre coins du globe. C'est au mariage de Mignard, le 15 février 1905, que Segalen fit la connaissance de son épouse, Yvonne Hébert. Cette carte postale a été adressée par Segalen à son ami depuis Chicago alors qu'il se rend à Tahiti via San Francisco. C'est la première fois que le Breton se rend aux Etats-Unis et ses impressions sont plutôt pessimistes : "Chicago. Le summum déplorable de l'américanité bourgeonnante aigüe. Suppose une masse de grès ayant cristallisé suivant le système Cubique. Musée puéril : près de l'Apollon du belvédère une reproduction de l'Hôtel des Postes. Je pars cette nuit d'une traite pour San Francisco où je serai mardi à 4h."‎

Bis jetzt sind Ihnen meiner Meinung nach einige heitere Sachen am besten gelungen [...] Wenn ich Ihnen rathen soll, so studieren sie von modernen Dichtern [...] Mörike und Storm. In beiden finden Sie, was bei Ihnen noch zu wenig entwickelt ist. Knappheit und Tiefe und Schlagkraft des Ausdrucks.
