La prima op. è preceduta da un "Tableau chronologique" di 5 pp, dei sovrani arabi o Mori che regnarono in Spagna, dal 705 d. C. al 1474. L' A. (1755-1794), dà alle stampe (prima ed. 1791) l'epopea cavalleresca "Gonzalve de Cordoue", ambientata durante l'assedio di Granata di Ferdinando ed Isabella di Castiglia: a questo eroe dalle rocambolesche vicende esotico-sentimentali crede di affidare la sua fama presso i posteri; essa sarà invece assicurata dall'Introduzione al romanzo: il "Précis historique", trattato, dettagliatissimo e documentato, sulla dominazione saracena in Spagna (De Feller: "un de meilleurs morceaux dans son genre"). Nelle numerose note a piè di pagina, nutrita bibliografia, contemporanea e dei secoli precedenti, di testi sull'argomento. Le principali biblioteche citano edizioni coeve, ma non quelle dei nostri esemplari. De Feller, Tome V, pp 145-146.
