There is no proper title-page or publishing da6ta anywhere in the book. Date is taken from the etchings and Boston is the location of all the advertisers. Seven of the eight have ownership signatures on the front covers see comments. All in all a very nice readable set. The original first eight volumes of this periodical each in tan wraps with black lettering. Consecutive pagination of 244 pp. with no illustrations. Former owners of these journals included Rev. Samuel Hanson Cox an American Presbyterian minister and leading abolitionist who corresonded often with Frederick Douglass and Andrew Johnson; Rev. William Allen president of Dartmouth and then Bowdoin College Maine; and Mrs. E.H. Gillett wife of Ezra Hall Gillett a minister who graduated from Yale in 1841 and Union Theological Seminary in 1844. All owners were quite progressive thinkers. In addition to the usual quarterly society information articles include "Extract from Dr. Beecher's Sermon" which is Lyman Beecher father of Harriet Beecher Stowe and Henry Ward Beecher; "An Estimate of the physical civil and moral power of the West"; "Prof. Stuart's Letter on the importantce of a knowledge of the Classics to Theological Students"; "Facts in regard to slavery and slave trade"; and many more.
