This was the first of several screen adaptations of Hemingway's 1927 short story and the screenplay was by Anthony Veiller with uncredited contributions by Richard Brooks and John Huston produced by Mark Hellinger and directed by Robert Siodmak. THE KILLERS was nominated in four categories for the 1947 Academy Awards. This was Burt Lancaster's first important film role and it made him a star.
