No underlining. No highlighting. No margin notes. Illustrated with numerous photos some in full-color. Autobiography of a doctor who was born in Hawaii but who moved to Japan at the age of five. Included are her recollections of her early years vivid memories of the days before and after the atomic bombing of Hiroshima; her role as an official responsible for public health after the devastation of WWII; etc. Among her other books are: THE MUSHROOM CLOUD 1963; BEYOND DARK CLOUD 1965; THE SKY OF HIROSHIMA WAS FINE 1976; LIVING IN HIROSHIMA 1977; etc. In 1992 Dr. Kaya founded the Goto of Hiroshima Foundation a scholarship organization dedicated to fostering mutual understanding between the people of Hiroshima and Hawaii. Dr. Kaya named the organization for her uncle Katsu Goto an immigrant to Hawaii in 1885. Goto worked on the Big Island's Ookala plantation for 3 years before starting a general store. The success of his store angered his American competitors. Meanwhile he continued to interpret for other Japanese workers at the Ookala plantation. This too made enemies because he stood up for the workers against the American plantation owner. In 1889 the rising hostility toward Goto culminated with his lynching. Bound in the original gold-color textured wraps with titles printed in black and with turn-in flaps i.e. there are inner flaps just like a Dust Jacket but the outer wrap is attached at the spine: a.k.a.
