He was inspired to write it by a visit to a Capuchin monastery in Bamberg. This Dutch translation is by Johan van der Woude who also writes an introduction. The striking illustrations are by Eppo Doeve 1907-1981 a popular Dutch painter and cartoonist who was born in Bandung Indonesia and moved to the Netherlands in 1927.<p>This translation is a title in the series "De Onsterfelijken" The Immortals characterized as "masterworks of world literature".<p>Contact was an anti-Nazi publisher.
