Ciò che ne risulta sono scritture fittizie, che della scrittura conservano solo il gesto e formano blocchi di testo e capitoli come nelle pagine di libri e giornali. La tendenza alla meditazione, tipica del suo lavoro, è rafforzata dall'uso intenso del colore blu. La mostra metteva in relazione il lavoro dell'artista tedesca con la poesia visiva degli anni '60 e '70, allora attuale, ma aggiunge anche un elemento nuovo. Dalla produzione di Blank emergono infatti punti di contatto con la Minimal art e l'arte concettuale, con artiste e artisti che nell'astrazione hanno trovato un linguaggio alternativo e molto personale, come Agnes Martin, Hanne Darboven, Roman Opalka. Irma Blank (Celle, Germania, 1934, vive e lavora a Milano) pratica la scrittura come strumento di conoscenzaintuitive e riduce i segni linguistici a "Urzeichen", segni primordiali. In oltre quarant'anni di attività, ha esposto le sue opere in musei, gallerie e rassegne internazionali come Documenta di Kassel (1977), la Biennale di venezia (1978, 2017), Quadriennale di Roma (2005), Centre Pompidou di Parigi (2010), Kunsthaus Hamburg (2016), MAMbo Bologna (2016).
