Twenty unreadable posters reflecting me that I've affixed at various locations in the city in order to communicate with the street. They were able to last for two days only, stuck between the publicity posters and Istanbul's fast changing pace. While the posters I've affixed on temporary panels or on anonymous walls also lasted for two days average, usually the people whose houses face that direction didn't want to see the posters and reacted. Additionally, these posters were collected by garbagemen the morning after. And the people passing by generally showed interest in the posters and tried to read them while questioning what they mean.

On a paper with letterhead 'Molvan Müesseseleri Termal Otel in Yalova' and watermarked 'Extra Strong'. 2 p. She mentions a trip to Yalova and its villages with her father Cafer Fahri Bey, Celal Sofu (Melek Celal Lampe's husband), Refet Pasha, Fazil Bey, and what a clever man Refet Pasha is when he speaks especially (like a devil!). She wants a corset from her sister. Sükriye Dikmen was a Turkish female painter who is known for her portraits of women and young girls. She was born in Istanbul in 1918. Her father was Cafer Fahri Bey of Batum, a scientist of the Republican era. She is the older sister of painter Tiraje Dikmen, and the nephew of Ali Dikmen, a member of the Ottoman parliament Meclis-i Mebusan, and later a member of the Grand National Assembly. Dikmen received her pre-university education at the Robert College in Arnavutköy finishing in 1942. Six years later in 1948, she completed her education at the Painting Department of the State Academy of Fine Arts Istanbul, and then went to Paris, France. Edited by Haldun Dostoglu, Serra Karapinar Yentürk. Nejad Devrim is one of the prominent Turkish artists who spent a significant period of his career in Paris. He is a painter who flourished in the libertarian atmosphere of Paris where artistic practice was fuelled by an atmosphere open to criticism. His aim was different than the previous generation of Turkish intellectuals who came to Paris for a Western education only to replicate it in Turkey. Devrim was part of a generation who constituted the first modernists of Turkey. His works were contemporaneous to modernist artists of his period and looked to actively participate in the European art scene. He abandoned the figurative compositions that he commenced in Istanbul and produced works that would later be identified as the masterpieces of Turkish abstract art. He established a genuine place in the European art scene by carrying the multi-colored compositions of Byzantine mosaics to his works. Devrim is recognized as the most important representer of geometrical and lyrical abstraction in Turkish history of art. As a Lyrical Abstract artist, Nejad Devrim believed that nature should not be imitated, but rather its meaning explored. He depicted what he found in lyrically expressive paintings in which color is used as a powerful compositional element. He regarded his paintings as places in which chance encounters and unknowns might be discovered. (Source: Galeri Nev).

MEHMET GÜLERYÜZ, (Turkish painter), (1938-).
Mehmet Güleryüz. With one's eyes open.= Göz göre göre. 07.03-27.04.2013 [Exhibition catalogue]. Preface by Nan Freeman.
New English Paperback. Large demy 8vo. (21 x 16,5 cm). In English and Turkish. [48] p., color ills. "Güleryüz's art is addressed to a broad audience; he assumes alert, self-aware and participatory viewers conversant in general with artistic forms, but more important, engaged with issues of society and life itself. Although he is thoroughly a member of his profession, he does not practice an art whose primary reference is to art world itself, to the context of historical avantgardism, or to specialty issues pertaining to art alone... He does not worry about being modern, he worries about being true; because of his engagement with the conditions and concerns of his time he is by definition a man of his times, and modern therefore but not because of a separate ideological art." (Text of Nan Freeman).

This book has been prepared due to the exhibition held in the Military Museum and Culture Site between May 6 and May 15, 1997 in cooperation with the Municipality of Sisli and the Painting and Sculpture Museums Association. One of 1000 copies. "... The old "La Societa Operaia" and the new "Galatasaraylilar Yurdu" [i.e. Dormitory of Galatasaray Lycee] in Beyoglu, Pera started to host three art exhibitions; the first two would be held in the spring of 1916 and 1917, and the last one, which hosted paintings about the war - what would later become known as the Sisli Studio - was held in late 1917 before being brought to Vienna. The Vienna exhibition hosted 20 artists; Zekai Pasha, who had exhibited only one work in the late 1917 exhibition, "Bir Konak Dahili" [i.e. Interior of a Mansion] did not take part in the Vienna show, while the Prince Abdülmecid Efendi, the honorary president of the Society, who had not attended the 1917 exhibition, sent four paintings to Vienna. The opening of the Vienna exhibition was conducted by the Archduke himself. The exhibition, as Celal Esad pointed out, was well received by both Austrian visitors and the press. A poster was designed and the exhibition was accompanied with a German catalogue, Ausstellung Türkischer Maler [i.e. Exhibition of Turkish Painters]. Turkish artists who attended Vienna Exhibition are: Prince Abdulmejid, Ömer Adil Bey, Ali Cemal Ben'im, Ali Sami Boyar, Cevat Bey, Feyhaman Duran, Harika (Sirel Lifij) Hanim, Halil Pasha, Hikmet Onat, Hüseyin Avni Lifij, Ismail Hakki Bey, Mehmed Ali Laga, Mahmud Bey, Namik Ismail, Rusen Zamir Hanim, Mehmed Ruhi Bey, Mehmed Sami Bey (Yetik), Sevket Dag, Diyarbakirli Tahsin, and Ibrahim Çalli; with their 142 pieces of paintings totally, in different techniques.

Fine Fine Turkish Original bdg. Dust wrapper. 4to. (28 x 20 cm). In Turkish with an English summary (pp. 131-133), [xii], 144 p., color ills. The story of contemporary Turkish art begins approximately one hundred and fifty year ago, with the westernization movement that changed not only art but political and social life as well in this country. In the mid-19th century, when the Ottoman Empire was adopting European social and political institutions, art too was affected, gaining... Within the context of the Turkish people's odyssey of pictorial art, from its inception to the present day, or in other words the dialectic homogenism of Turkish culture, the attempt to distinguish "traditional vs. modern" compartments, or "painting vs. miniature", will, as emerges from our study to this point, vary according to one's approach to the subject..." GIANMARIA POTENZA, (1936-).
Gianmaria Potenza: Museo di Arte Turca e Islamica di Istanbul Dialogo tra le Tradizioni, Venezia - Istanbul.= Istanbul Türk - Islam Eserleri Müzesi Geleneklerin söylesisi, Venedik - Istanbul. [Exhibition catalogue]. 2-5, 30-6, 1994. Curated by Beral Madra. Texts by Beral Madra, Carlo Milic, Paolo Rizzi.
New Italian Paperback. 4to. (30 x 21 cm). In Italian, English and Turkish. 51 p., color and b/w ills. The exhibition of works by the Venetian artist Gianmaria Potenza at the Museum for Turkish and Islamic Art is the outcome of an art that establishes relations. Potenza comes from Venice, a city doomed to bear the burden of international tourism. He is an artist who clearly opposes the modern lack of time and the continuous impoverishment of human relations. The conservation of the historical context and a unique culture undoubtedly brings benefits for the economics of tourism. But clearly Venice must not be conserved for the purposes of tourism alone. The physical and cultural context of the city assumes greater importance with every passing day and especially for artists like Potenza, who have made such an important cultural contribution. Potenza removes cultural values from the vicious circle of economics as he continually strives towards a visual and spiritual discourse, people must take time to comprehend how tradition may still be identified in the contemporary. Potenza is not only the keeper of a tradition, he is a keeper of time itself. The picto-sculptures at the Turkish Islamic Museum are just one series from his rich creative outpourings. The works consists of an almost infinite number of interconnected small black wooden cylinders and cubes creating a definite textures.

Unlike the first period, the magazine became one of the most important literary magazines of those years. Sureya sold the car she brought from Paris for the magazine. Due to financial difficulties and March 12, its broadcast life has come to an end. In 1980 the magazine was reprinted quarterly. During this period, only two issues were published and no more were published due to the September 12 Coup d'Etat. Süreya stated that he named the magazine "Papyrus" in his letter dated 22 December 1959 to one of his friends, Nedret Gürcan, because "the ancient Egyptians wrote their first writings on the leaves of the grass called papyrus growing on the banks of the Nile."
