Unclear whether this is in Mock's handwriting. Theodore F. Mock was listed as the Camp Custer Photographer in David V. Tinder's "Directory of Early Michigan Photographers" published by Clements Library 2013. Camp Custer at Battle Creek Michigan had over 100000 US Army troops pass through its doors between 1917-1919. Sept. 29th 1918 was the day in 1918 after a 56-hour-long bombardment Allied forces breached the so-called Hindenburg Line the last line of German defenses on the Western Front during World War I. Description:<br />2 volumes. Royal octavo 9 1/4" x 6 3/4" bound in facsimile velum with title printed in red and black on covers and horizontally ink lettered. Introduction by Francisco Gonzalez de Cossio. From the library of George M Foster. Second edition limited to 500 copies of which this is number 13.José Antonio Villaseñor y Sánchez was an 18th-century geographer historian and mathematician in New Spain. He was born in San Luis Potosà México and studied at San Ildefonso in Mexico City. He became an accountant and later official cosmographer geographer of New Spain. By order of Philip V the viceroy of New Spain Conde de Fuenclara was commanded in 1740 to have a report prepared on the true condition of the provinces of his jurisdiction. He commissioned José Antonio Villaseñor y Sánchez to prepare the report. Villaseñor occupied a number of important posts: official mayor of the Contaduria de Reales Tributos contador general de la azogues and cosmographer of New Spain. He wrote a number of works of mathematical and astronomical interest. The outcome of this commission by Fuenclara was the Theatro Americano descripción general de los reinos y provincias de la Nueva España y sus jurisdicciones. It appered in two volume in 1746 and 1748. The first volume contains introductory chapters on pre-Spanish and Spanish history of Mexico followed by a jurisdiction-by jurisdiction description of the archdiocese of Mexico and diocese of Puebla. The second volume continues the description for the diocese of Puebla. The second volume continues the description for the diocese of Michoacán Oaxaca Guadalajara and Durango. The work comprehends a great mass of data regarding the ethnology and population of the Mexican provinces in the mid-18th century. Handbook of Middle American Indians.George McClelland Foster Jr born in Sioux Falls South Dakota on October 9 1913 died on May 18 2006 at his home in the hills above the campus of the University of California Berkeley where he served as a professor from 1953 to his retirement in 1979 when he became professor emeritus. His contributions to anthropological theory and practice still challenge us; in more than 300 publications his writings encompass a wide diversity of topics including acculturation long-term fieldwork peasant economies pottery making public health social structure symbolic systems technological change theories of illness and wellness humoral medicine in Latin America and worldview. The quantity quality and long-term value of his scholarly work led to his election to the National Academy of Sciences in 1976. With a map of individual lots parcels and features of the community including polo fields and country club on one side and a listing of names of residents and their places with black & white photos on the verso. Near fine copy with faint handling a few tiny notations in ink and creases from folding. Hope Ranch is named after Irishman Thomas Hope who purchased the land in 1861 for $8000 for sheep ranching. After his death in 1876 his heirs sold the ranch for $250000 to the Southern Pacific Railroad. In 1923 Harold Chase bought the land with the intention to develop it into the upscale residential community of 773 lots encompassing 1863 acres it remains to this day. Original Sepia Snapshot of the First Modern Film Studio Known as Inceville
4 3/4†x 2 5/8†1922. An original sepia toned photograph of a film location known as Inceville named after Thomas H. Ince head of silent film studio Bison Pictures. The photo shows a set location including various buildings and what appears to be an English Tudor style house with a bare hill in the background. Written on the verso in an unknown hand: “Inceville now the junction of Sunset Blvd. and Pacific Coast Highway. Dec. 25 1922.†Fine condition. Thomas Harper Ince 1882 - 1924 was a silent film actor director screenwriter and innovative producer of more than 100 films. He earned the reputation as the ‘Father of the Western’ and is credited with inventing many production techniques including the assembly line system of filmmaking. Inceville was sold it to William S. Hart who renamed it Hartville and then Hart sold the lot to Robertson-Cole which continued making films until 1922. La Hue writes that "the place was virtually a ghost town when the last remnants of Inceville were burned on the Fourth of July in 1922 leaving only a weatherworn old church which stood sentinel over the charred ruins. 4 3/4†x 2 5/8†unknown books

Nauvoo IL 1842. unbound. Nauvoo House Association $50-$100 Stock Certificates Uncut Pair. This variety listed as Nyholm 46 and Rust 31. A complete uncut sheet dating from the early 1840s from the second issue of stock to build a Mormon-sponsored hotel in Nauvoo Illinois. It should be noted that Joseph Smith placed the original manuscript of the Book of Mormon in the cornerstone of the building in 1841. Construction was stopped in 1844 in order to concentrate on building Nauvoo Temple. Condition: This example is well centered with above average margins on all four sides. There are two pin holes in the margins that might very well be guide marks. The corners appear sharp but we do notice two minor distractions in the margins of the $50 note. A great women's suffrage song features an exchange between male and female choruses. From the 1870s to the 1910s he published German-language newspapers in several Wisconsin cities as well as in Chicago and Lincoln Nebraska. We find one copy of this title listed in OCLC at the San Francisco Public Library. . Hand colored engraving light foxing and soiling paper thinned in upper margin from prior mounting.<br/><br/>It reads translation from Discovering the New World Based on the Works of Theodore de Bry Harper & Row 1976: As can be seen from the preceding illustrations this area abounds with very agreeable little islands. The rivers are not deep; the pure clear water scarcely reaches the chest. When the Indians want to make an enjoyable excursion with their wives and children they go to these islands. They either swim across the river for they are excellent swimmers or they wade across carrying the little children. In fact the mothers can manage three children at once the smallest on a shoulder clutching its hand and the other two under her arms. With the free hand the women carry a basket full of fruit or other food for the occasion. For fear of meeting enemies the men carry bows and arrows. In order not to wet them they attach the quiver to their hair and hold the bows stretched and ready with and arrow prepared instantly to defend themselves as can be seen in our engraving.
