Des Moines: F.R. Conaway State Printer 1896. Hardcover. Small 4to. Grey blind-ruled cloth with gilt front board lettering and pictorial stamping. 85pp. Frontispiece 5 full-page illustrations. Near fine. Faint handling to binding only else tight and internally near fine. Handsome first edition of this "Report of the Battle Flag Committee Appointed by the Twenty=Fourth General Assembly to Provide Cases and Transfer the Iowa Battle Flags from the Arsenal to the Capitol" being the text of the state governor's proclamation and speechifying from him and other dignitaries as well as an itemized inventory of all 138 flags. Front flyleaf bears a large bold presentation inscription in black ink: "Hyde Clarke Post G.A.R. / Dubuque Ia / Compliments of / Jno. R. Prime." Prime 1847-1923 whose signature also appears in facsimile on the opening text page was a career Army officer who first served as private with Company K of the 27th Iowa Infantry in the Civil War served as adjutant-general and was raised to brigadier general in 1896. Front flyleaf depicts Frank D. Jackson Iowa's Republican governor and title page includes a dramatic red white and blue graphic of a flying American flag with battle-shredded edges. Mildly edgeworn only. Tight and attractive probable sole edition of this memorial yearbook of World War I veterans from Jo Daviess county in northwestern Illinois. Of special interest is a sharp WW1-era real photo postcard tipped to front flyleaf showing an unidentified young man in suit and overcoat and distinctive checkered cap standing in the snow -- and on page 189 the very same young man in the same outfit stands in a large group photo captioned "Jo Daviess County Boys Who Departed For Camp Grant February 27 1918." Unique copy of a volume exceptionally difficult to find in acceptable condition -- scotch-taped hinges and duck-taped spine are the norm. In the original half morocco and cloth boards. Ex-library copy with spine label bookplate pocket and perforated stamp on the letterpress title page and first text page. The binding is rubbed and scuffed else good. This edition of the Regulations is a revision of the 1841 edition issued because the 1841 edition was exhausted due to increased demand occasioned by the Mexican-American war. The regulations govern all aspects of army life arranged under 57 Articles. Also included is a 24-page appendix that reprints 101 Articles of War and an engraved plate depicting the Order of Encampment for a Regiment of Infantry and for two squadrons of Cavalry. Mm. 88 x 138, cartolina postale illustrata a colori in rosso, bianco e verde, viaggiata, con bollo e timbro postale. Edizione originale. Al recto la scritta: “La Bandiera futurista” seguita dal motto “Marciare non marcire”. Al verso, l'intestazione tradizionale del Movimento in inchiostro rosso. Cfr. Scudiero M., Futurismi postali, n. 5: “Verso la primavera del 1915, in pieno clima interventista vengono editate le due famose cartoline tricolore. Cronologicamente la prima è la "Cartolina Futurista Tipo-Cangiullo" con la sottotitolazione ufficiale del "Movimento". La bandiera italiana vede alterati gli equilibri cromatici a causa dell'accentuata sproporzione che assume la campitura in rosso e in sovrimpressione orizzontale la scritta "La bandiera futurista", seguita dal motto "Marciare non marcire". Al verso torna l'intestazione tradizionale del Movimento in inchiostro rosso.. Il connubio del tricolore con il motto "Marciare non marcire", rendono la cartolina molto popolare e non è raro, nelle foto al fronte, vederla infilata accanto alla penna sul cappello degli alpini". Ben conservata.
