Le second volume se compose des consultations. Ce recueil est en outre complété d’une notice sur la vie et les travaux de l’auteur, ainsi que d’une bibliographie de et sur l’auteur. Exceptionnel et très rare.

Oblong folio (312 x 238 mm). 11 lithographed and engraved plans, mostly folding. Contemporary half cloth over marbled boards with handwritten title label. A privately assembled collection of maps and plans showing Napoleon's campaigns and battles, mainly drawn from Johann Friedrich Constantin von Lossau's "Charakteristik der Kriege Napoleons" (1843), the three atlas volumes of which ("Karten und Pläne zur Charakteristik der Kriege Napoleons") appeared between 1843 and 1847. The present collection includes ten of Lossau's total of 17 plans: "Karte zum Feldzug des Jahres 1812 in Russland"; "Plan von Smolensk und Gegend"; "Plan zum Gefecht von Malo Jaroslawetz"; "Plan zu den Treffen von Krasnoi"; "Plan zu den Treffen bei Studianka und Stackow und zum Übergang über die Beresina"; "Plan zur Umgegend von Marengo"; "Plan der Gegend um Ulm"; "Schlacht von Hohenlinden"; "Situations Plan zu den Gefechten bei Thann, Abensberg und Eggmühl"; "Karte von Ägypten und Syrien". Also, there is a map of Crimea and the Black Sea: "Küsten Karte des Schwarzen Meeres" (drawn by Anton Müller and engraved by H. K. Jungh, printed by F. Kargl). Furthermore, two unlabelled hand-drawn maps ink blue and black ink showing the same area, loosely inserted. Mostly wrinkled, browned and waterstained; some paper flaws. Some plans have hand-drawn additions, annotations or overlays. Pencil notes to flyleaf. Signs of frequent use. 8vo. 144 pp. Splendid modern red morocco, fully gilt to spine, covers, leading edges, inner dentelle, signed by Hatchard's, Piccadilly. Marbled endpapers. Top edge gilt. First edition; rare. - The first refutation of the famous "Manuscrit venu de Sainte-Hélène, d'une manière inconnue", which was published anonymously in London earlier that same year. This mysterious "manuscript", an apology of Napoleon Bonaparte's actions and intentions, was supposedly written by Napoleon himself or by a close friend. While soon exposed as a fraud, the work was long variously attributed to Madame de Staël, Charles Tristan Comte de Montholon, Benjamin Constant and E. J. Sieyes before Frédéric Lullin de Châteauvieux (1772-1841) from Geneva, a friend of Madame de Staël, was established as the author. Napoleon himself composed a refutation which was later published. The present anonymous publication is sometimes attributed to the publisher Michaud himself. "La première réfutation qui ait été faite de ce fameux libelle" (Hoefer). Hübscher Sammelband aus drei seltenen, anonym veröffentlichten deutschen Schriften zu den Befreiungskriegen, darunter eine von Schlegel. - I: Zweite Auflage der deutschen Erstausgabe. Die geheimnisvolle "Handschrift" soll "von Bonaparte geschrieben oder von einem vertrauten Freunde" als Rechtfertigung verfasst worden sein. In ihr gibt Napoleon "einen Abriss jener Begebenheiten (meiner Regierung), weil mein Charakter und meine Absichten ungeheuer entstellt werden, und ich so, wie ich gewesen ... erscheinen will". "Freimütig" gibt er darum Auskunft "über seine Meinungen, Beweggründe und Handlungen". Der Philosoph und Übersetzer W. T. Krug weist nach, dass die Schrift wegen ihrer vielen Gedankensprünge, Inkonsequenzen und Widersprüche nicht von Napoleon selbst stammen könne. Bevor Lullin de Chateauvieux als Autor ermittelt war, wurde sie Charles Tristan Comte de Montholon, aber auch B. Constant, E. J. Sieyes, Madame de Staël und schließlich einem gewissen Bertrand, einem Verwandten Siméons, zugeschrieben. - II: Erste deutsche Ausgabe der politisch-militärischen Dokumentensammlung, herausgegeben vom romantischen Sprachphilosophen A. W. Schlegel, der sich schon 1813 aus dem Exil an der antinapoleonischen Publizistik beteiligt hatte. Behandelt die "Familie Napoleon und wichtige Staats-Angelegenheiten", "Diplomatik", "Allgemeine Polizei", "Militair-Dienst", "Ministerien des Innern und der Finanzen" sowie "Auszüge aus Privatbriefen, aus Paris und aus dem Innern in das große Hauptquartier der französischen Armee". Die großformatigen Tabellen zeigen Truppenpläne sowie eine Aufstellung zur Kaiserlichen Garde. - III: Erste Ausgabe des Berichts von Leipzig während der Völkerschlacht, verfasst von Ludwig Hussell (1772-1845), preußischem Regierungssekretär zu Merseburg. - Einband an Ecken und Kanten etwas berieben; am Vorsatz Inhaltsverzeichnis von zeitgenöss. An important compilation of the fundamental New Jersey charters and session laws of the proprietary period 1664 to 1702 up to Lord Cornbury's commission and instructions as Royal Governor when New Jersey became a crown colony under Queen Anne. Publication was ordered by the New Jersey Assembly in 1752 but two years were required to collect the documents to be included while the typesetting and printing took Bradford an additional three. By the date of publication some 170 copies had been subscribed. This title was the largest volume issued from Bradford's press and one of the largest from any eighteenth-century American press. The principal outcome was the "Declaration of Pillnitz" issued on the 27th, declaring the joint support of the Holy Roman Empire and of Prussia for King Louis XVI of France against the French Revolution. The present pamphlet makes little mention of the behind-the-scenes diplomacy but recounts in great detail the entrance, fireworks, illuminations, and balls by which the meeting was celebrated. - Light duststaining. The accord dictated that the Archduchy of Austria would receive the Bavarian lands east of the Inn river in compensation. The "Innviertel", except for a short time during the Napoleonic Wars, has remained with Upper Austria until today. - Includes the words to a celebratory song, to be sung to the tune of "Freu dich sehr, o meine Seele". - Irregularly trimmed; light browning. Folio (273 x 360 mm). Lithographed frontispiece in colour, 4 portraits of the Nobel family, and 39 plates in colour and black and white (all with printed tissue guards). Publisher's original galf cloth over grey boards with title printed to gilt upper cover. Rare Russian commemorative publication memorializing the 50th birthday of Emanuel Nobel (1859-1932), nephew of Alfred Nobel. He was head of the family's oil business, Branobel, an oil empire that was based in Baku (Azerbaijan, Imperial Russia) and was the largest oil company in Europe. Emanuel Nobel accepted Russian citizenship at the Tsar's personal request; from 1891 until 1918 he also sat on the board of the Russian State Bank's Discount Committee until he was forced to flee Russia after the Revolution. Emanuel Nobel was also instrumental in the execution of his uncle's will and thus in the formation of the Nobel Prize. The album was prepared and published by the Nobel Brothers "Petroleum Partnership Employees Committee" (their publication label is pasted to the inside front covery), and every participant in the festivities was presented with a copy. - Extremeties slightly bumped, a few very minor nicks to edges of plates, but altogether uncommonly well preserved. Oblong folio (ca. 25 x 28 cm) album covered with red silk fabric. 85 mounted original photos (10,5 x 14,5 and 14,5 x 21 cm), each with Russian inscription glued underneath. Cover rubbed and bumped, slightly soiled. Very interesting documentary about the first two years of the Korean War from a North Korean perspective. The first photo is a close-up of the leader Kim Il-sung (1912-94), who can be seen in another scene with reporting soldiers. Also portrayed are various war heroes (Kim Gi-U, Han Nam-Su and the pilot Kim Gi-Ok) and officers, including two photographs of the commander of the 6th Division, Pang Ho San (portrait; in the command post with officer's staff) as well as honours and awards for soldiers. Also on display are airplanes, tanks and cannons of the Korean People's Army, as well as scenes from war missions with bomb smoke, corpses and debris fields, bombed-out factories, shot-down American airplanes and captured tanks, the capture of American soldiers and prisoners of war, operations in the field hospital, a bombed-out street and a demonstration in Pyongyang and the reception of a Polish delegation. - The quality, thematic selection and careful arrangement of the photographs show that a professional or at least an experienced photographer was at work here. The exclusivity of many representations, to which an ordinary photographer would not have had access, suggests that the photographer must have been officially accredited: most likely it was a Russian war correspondent or press officer who produced the documentation on behalf of the Russian government or army. This album is a one-off production or may have been produced in small quantities for selected recipients. - While the Korean War is well documented from an American and Western perspective by numerous published and private photographs, original photographs from the opposite perspective are hardly to be found. Very rare.
