‎Corpus of the mosaics of Turkey. 2 volumes set. Volume I: Lycia - Xanthos. Part 1: The East Basilica. Volume II: Xanthos. Part 2: The West area.‎

‎New English Original bdg. HC. 4to. (32 x 24,5 cm). In English. 2 volumes set: (186 p.; 131p). Color and b/w ills. Vol 1: This first volume of the Mosaic Corpus of Turkey places her among the countries of the Mediterranean world and Western Europe publishing systematically the mosaic wealth in their own lands. The project followed the serious models of Recueil general des mosaìques de la Gaule and Mosaici antichi in Italia. The corpus project was initiated at a meeting of mosaic experts from six countries led by M. Sahin and D. Parrish and held at American Research Institute in Turkey, Istanbul, in 2004. The first volume of the project covers the mosaics from Xanthos. This volume prepared for publication by Marie-Patricia Raynaud presents, with all their phases, the floor pavements of the East Basilica employing very successfully both opus tessellatum and opus sectile techniques. Two more aspects of this work need to be underlined: first of all, the magnificent photographs and the successful reconstruction drawings and floor plans of the mosaics, which will provide the reader with a visual festivity. This volume with its publication and research quality is a strong start for the Mosaic Corpus of Turkey. This also means that a high standard is already established for the future monographs. Vol. 2: The present book forms the second volume in the Corpus of the Mosaics of Turkey, following upon the initial work on Xanthos published by Marie-Patricia Raynaud in 2009. This new volume broadens the documentation and appreciation of mosaic art in that city. Future monographs in the same series will turn to other archaeological sites in Turkey, whose vast mosaic treasures are gradually receiving the scholarly attention they deserve. This entire project originated at a meeting of mosaic experts from six countries led by M. Sahin and D. Parrish and held at the American Research Institute in Turkey at Istanbul in 2004. In this work, Anne-Marie Manière-Lévêque, a very experienced member of the French team that has been excavating at Xanthos for many years, carefully records and interprets mosaic pavements from the western part of Xanthos, which includes buildings with mosaic decoration on the Lycian Acropolis and in the "Roman" Agora. The pavements ornamented both domestic and religious structures, and they include several fine figural carpets in addition to geometric floors. The pavement techniques consist of both opus tessellatum and opus sectile, and chronologically they cover the late Antique and Early Byzantine periods. These floors complement the fine assortment of pavements found in the East Basilica inventoried in the first Xanthos volume. In both its text and rich illustration, the present work maintains the high standard of scholarship employed in the earlier volume, and all of this is underscored by the author's deep familiarity with the archaeological exploration of Xanthos. Both books in the series serve as models for future mosaic research in Turkey.‎

‎Les Fouilles et le materiel de l'atelier amphorique De Demirci Pres de Sinope.‎

‎New English Paperback. Pbo. 4to. (28 x 22,5 cm). In French. 209 p., 54 color and b/w plates. ‎ERNST KRICKL.‎

‎Lycian journal, 1892. Edited by Nezih Basgelen.‎

‎New New English Original bdg. Dust wrapper. Folio. (31 x 25 cm). In English. 319 pp. Color and b/w ills. An Austrian military engineer, Captain Ernst Krickl was a member of an Austrian archaeological expedition to Lycia in southwest Anatolia in 1892. Krickl made important contributions to this stage of Lycian research, drawing sketches of the monuments they encountered and plans of the ancient sites they visited, and taking photographs. 1892 Lycian Journal is Ernst Krickl's personal account of the expedition, illustrated with photographs. These three albums are here published in facsimile and English translation together with contemporary commentary on the expedition as described by Krickl. Reading Krickl's journal we accompany this young military engineer on a journey with some of the most eminent scholars of his time through a world that was completely strange to him and in many respects is strange to us in Turkey today, due to the radical changes that have taken place over the intervening century.‎

‎The city of Artemis with "White Eyebrows": Magnesia on the Meander. Magnesia ad Maeandrum. An archaeological guide. Translation: Jonathan Ross, Ayse Çalik Ross.‎

‎New English Paperback. Demy 8vo. (22 x 12 cm). In English. 204 p. "To those who enquire how long the excavations at Magnesia are expected to continue O. Bingöl is in the habit of replying, "I have drawn up plans for the next 400 years but beyond that I haven't considered yet!" He does this to make it clear to everyone that the kind of work that will confront archaeologists at a site like Magnesia will never end and to emphasize the difficulties and problems he encounters in trying to carry out his plans. In this guide, we present the information about earlier researches on thesite as well as the results of Bingöl's first 23 years of excavations, the first phase of a very long program. Our aim is to present a clear picture of how different historical periods can be examined comprehensively in Magnesia, which was protected under the natural covering and thus not obliterated by the remains of more recent periods and cultures.". Prof. Dr. Orhan Bingöl, Director of Magnesia Excavations.‎

‎New English Paperback. Pbo. Demy 8vo. (21,5 x 15 cm). B/w ills. In English and Turkish bilingual. [x], 124 p. The Mediterranean is one of the foremost regions where the cult of relics spread in Christendom. Reliquaries of the sarcophagus type on display at or kept in the storehouses of Turkish museums are a strong indicator for the level of this cult in Anatolia and Istanbul with their numerous martyrs and saints. Reliquaries of various sizes, some of which are very plain while some others are decorated with figural and floral motifs, constitute an important group of items symbolizing the Christian faith both artistically and spiritually.‎

‎Stories from the Hidden Harbor: Shipwrecks of Yenikapi. Edited by Gülbahar Baran Çelik, Zeynep Kiziltan.‎

‎New English Paperback. Pbo. 4to. (30 x 24 cm). In English. Color and b/w ills. 219 p. "In 2004, the Istanbul Archaeological Museums started large-scale salvage excavations at Yenikapi within the scope of Marmaray-Metro projects. For the first time in Istanbul's history, archaeological excavations were conducted at one of its Byzantine harbors. When the excavations started, it was not known what this ancient harbor at the mouth of the Lykos (Bayrampasa) River would yield. At first, Ottoman remains were encountered in the excavation area, which covers over 58,000 square meters. Then, one of Constantinople's most important, and the world's best known harbors, the Theodosian Harbor, was reached only 1 meter below sea level. During the ongoing excavations, countless small finds and works of architecture were unearthed. In addition to wood and rope fragments, an unexpected find, a shipwreck, was found in 2005. As the excavation area expanded, a total of 37 ships dating between the 5th and 11th centuries were brought to light. Among the finds are very well preserved small and large merchantmen, as well as galleys from the Middle and Late Byzantine periods, which have been found for the first time. The Yenikapi wrecks constitute the largest collection of shipwrecks ever found together. Another surprise was waiting for the archaeologists 6,3 meters below sea level: Istanbul's oldest settlement. This Neolithic settlement dates back 8000 years and changes the writing of Istanbul's history. The footprints of Istanbulites who lived there thousands of years ago were found a few meters below. As the excavations go on uninterrupted, we have now acquired much new information about the city. This exhibition has been prepared in light of the finds from Yenikapi and their scientific study. It presents a section of the city from its first inhabitants to the present, and allows a multidimensional view of trade, seafaring, shipbuilding technology, and everyday life in Constantinople through four wrecks that were found together with their cargo. A publication by the Istanbul Archaeological Museums, Koç Foundation, Koç University Research Center for Anatolian Civilizations and Koç University Press".‎

Anatolia and its Biblical Visionaries present the continuing importance of the many people who have left their marks here and the places in which they lived. The author, Anna G. Edmonds, is well-known for her previous books, Biblical Sites in Turkey (co-authored with Everett C. Blake) and Turkey's Religious Sites. Knowledgeable about Turkey for over 50 years, she has traveled throughout the country many times. She brings to her works a long interest both in the people and the places she describes.‎

‎New English Paperback. Pbo. 4to. (30 x 24 cm). In Turkish. Stories from the Hidden Harbor: Shipwrecks of Yenikapi.
