La salvezza del bello
br. Dostoevskij aveva detto che solo la bellezza ci salverà. Ma oggi è il bello stesso a dover essere messo in salvo, recuperando l'integralità della sua esperienza che l'epoca digitale fa svanire di giorno in giorno. Questo è l'intento del saggio di Byung-Chul Han, che ripercorre momenti essenziali del pensiero europeo sul bello, da Platone a Nietzsche e Adorno, per mostrare con vigorosa persuasività la deriva estrema della nostra esperienza estetica. L'estetizzazione diffusa, la veloce proliferazione di immagini levigate e consegnate al consumo, dove conta solo il mero presente della più piatta percezione, conducono a una fondamentale anestetizzazione. Nulla più accade e ci riguarda nel profondo, e così l'arte diventa, come già aveva avvertito Nietzsche, solo occasione di una momentanea eccitazione. Ma l'originaria esperienza del bello è invece una scossa estatica che ci trasforma e si prolunga anche nella vita etica e politica. La bellezza non rimanda al sentimento di piacere, ma a un'esperienza di verità. "Tu devi cambiare la tua vita": il monito che promana dal Torso arcaico di Apollo nell'omonima poesia di Rilke è la parola che il bello ci rivolge attraverso questo libro.

br. Byung-Chul Han, tra i pensatori più importanti e più letti dei nostri tempi, affronta con stile nitido e conciso una delle fratture al cuore della società di oggi: la paura del dolore. Il mondo contemporaneo è terrorizzato dalla sofferenza. La paura del dolore è così pervasiva e diffusa da spingerci a rinunciare persino alla libertà pur di non doverlo affrontare. Il rischio, secondo Han, è chiuderci in una rassicurante finta sicurezza che si trasforma in una gabbia, perché è solo attraverso il dolore che ci si apre al mondo. Una rimozione che dobbiamo imparare a superare. Attingendo ai grandi del pensiero del Novecento, Han ci costringe, con questo saggio cristallino e tagliente come una scheggia di vetro, a mettere in discussione le nostre certezze. E nel farlo ci consegna nuovi e più efficaci strumenti per leggere la realtà e la società che ci circondano.

br. «Non abitiamo più la terra e il cielo, bensì Google Earth e il Cloud. Il mondo si fa sempre più inafferrabile, nuvoloso e spettrale». Abbiamo perso il contatto con il reale. br. Un'infinita possibilità di connessione e di informazione ci rende veramente soggetti liberi? Partendo da questo interrogativo, Han tratteggia la nuova società del controllo psicopolitico, che non si impone con divieti e non ci obbliga al silenzio: ci invita invece di continuo a comunicare, a condividere, a esprimere opinioni e desideri, a raccontare la nostra vita. Ci seduce con un volto amichevole, mappa la nostra psiche e la quantifica attraverso i big data, ci stimola all'uso di dispositivi di automonitoraggio. Nel panottico digitale del nuovo millennio - con internet e gli smartphone - non si viene torturati, ma twittati o postati: il soggetto e la sua psiche diventano produttori di masse di dati personali che sono costantemente monetizzati e commercializzati. In questo suo saggio, Han pone l'attenzione sul cambio di paradigma che stiamo vivendo, mostrando come la libertà oggi vada incontro a una fatale dialettica che la porta a rovesciarsi in costrizione: per ridefinirla è necessario diventare eretici, rivolgersi alla libera scelta, alla non conformità.
