Even tomeloos dacht hij hardop na over als bij natuurwet in de ramsj te vinden bundels van theatermaker B. Zwaal, over een gedicht voor een verongelukte vriend van de Nederlandse voetbalinternational Wim Jonk, over het experimentele, schijnbaar achterhaalde oeuvre van Lidy van Marissing en over een songtekst van Doe Maar. Wikkende analyses, tot aan de breedte van een gedachtestreepje toe, konden gepaard gaan met uitvallen naar het literaire klimaat. Na verloop van tijd begon Kregting eveneens voor andere bladen te schrijven. Eindelijk kunnen nu zijn poeziestukken - ook over bijvoorbeeld Ramsey Nasr, Tonnus Oosterhoff, Mustafa Stitou en Nachoem Wijnberg - met elkaar in debat. En de maker spaart zichzelf niet. Kregting zag zijn kans schoon om inzichten te verfijnen, te actualiseren en te politiseren. Bovendien voorzag hij zijn essays van noten, waardoor een schaduwboek ontstaat. Ditjes en datjes uit eeuwen geestesgeschiedenis komen boven en terloops rijst de vraag of het woord 'zich' in de huidige poezie van de Lage Landen te vergelijken valt met het woord 'feel' in popmuziek, en waarom Herman de Coninck zich spiegelde aan Johan Cruijff en niet aan Pol van Himst.
