UNDERSTANDING SHAKESPEARE: MACBETH. A TUTOR TEXT.
Garden City New York: Doubleday 1964. 189 pp 9 1/2" H. "The reader is guided by Ruth Frieman's clear and penetrating explanations into the rich complexities of meaning imagery and characterization of 'Macbeth' - and gains a deeper understanding of the greatest playwright in English Literature. Macbeth as obedient husband fearful and indecisive conspirator calculating murderer and finally as the haunted man who faces death with courage - all sides of this complex protagonist are revealed as the author traces Macbeth's steady movement towards his inexorable destiny in one of Shakespeare's most powerful tragedies. Featuring a helpful introductory historical background on the Elizabethan theatre and Shakespeare's life the 'Macbeth' TutorText will be an invaluable aid to high school English students and to all who seek a deeper comprehension of the famous Bard. Includes a line-by-line discussion of the text. Miss Frieman's lucid analysis bridges the gap between the obscure words and archaic idioms of the 16th century and the language of the 20th century and she accompanies the text with discussions of the nature of tragedy and the tragic hero Shakespeare's use of prose and poetry the relationship between rhythm rhyme and meter the effects of metaphor and the use of dramatic and stage devices." Robertson Warren.
FREE TO ACT: HOW TO STAR IN YOUR OWN LIFE.
New York: G.P. Putnam's Sons 1978. 223 pp 8 3/4" H. "Using the same liberating techniques that drew Diane Keaton James Earl Jones and Madeline Kahn to his famous drama workshop Warren Robertson now reveals his program to help you star in the longest-running show in town - your own life. 'Free to Act' presents a revolutionary new method of using body mind and emotion to break out of habitual behavior and self-defeating attitudes. His technique is about acting - the fine art of taking actions in the world. He maintains there is no more reason for a person to be limited to a confining role in life than there is for an actor to play a single part for an entire career. His program is designed to enable you to bring all of yourself in the most complete animated way to every moment of your life." Small sticker residue mark on free front endpaper very light wrinkling at bottom of spine tiny bump at bottom edge of pages 157 to 162.
