In the informative reference book "Hand Coloured Fashion Plates 1770 to 1899" Vyvyan Holland remarks that it "was nearer to the true fashion-plate than anything of its ambitious nature that had preceded it though it was still meant to be more a record of existing modes than designs for the future. This publication was issued in monthly parts each part consisting of two aquatints beautifully coloured by hand and enriched with gold silver and other metallic tints. The yearly subscription was three guineas and it lasted until March 1803 when it had completed exactly nine years of existence." Holland estimates that the total number of copies printed of each issue was "never more than 450 at any time" making these plates quite as scarce as they are exquisite. . N. Heideloff. unknown

Also included two full-color fashion plates loose in magazine each 7 ½ x 5 inches featuring gasp-inducing floral-motif chapeaux. In addition to works of fiction the Delineator magazine features several non-fiction articles of universal appeal: "Through Egypt and Palestine" No. 1 Egypt by Ira D. Sankey; "Stories of Authors Loves" Poe; "A Group of Notable Women" No. 1 Mrs. Browning at Home; etc. Detached front cover severely damaged with paper loss; rear cover attached but equally damaged. Contents in good clean condition. Ira D. Sankey was an American gospel singer and composer known as the "Sweet Singer of Methodism"; he was closely associated with evangelist Dwight Moody. A particularly attractive mezzotint engraving after a painting by George Romney 1769 showing a richly dressed woman in a three quarter pose. Vyvyan Holland Hand-Coloured Fashion Plates 1770-1899 Batsford 1955 describes this magazine as "one of the most important magazines of its time and which contains some of the most delicate fashion-plates of all time." .
