‎Nebehay/W. 214. - Um das Jahr 1860 hat der Verlag Manz in Regensburg die seit den ca. 1840 erschienen Donaupanoramen von Bernhard Grueber (1. Panorama der Donau von Ulm bis Regensburg. 2. Donaupanorama von der Einmündung des Ludwigkanals (Regensburg) bis Linz. 3. Donaupanorama von Linz bis Wien) zu einem großen mit dem Titel "Panorama der Donau von Ulm bis Wien" zusammengefasst. Vorliegend ist hier der Teil der Donau in Österreich bis Wien. Anscheinend wurde dieser Teil mit einem eigenen Titelblatt separat vertrieben, in der Literatur sowie in den Bibliotheken aber so unbekannt. Das aus der Vogelperspektive aufgenommene Panorama beginnt in Wien und gegen die Fließrichtung der Donau bis Osterhofen (südlich von Deggendorf). Die 78 hübschen Randansichten im Format von ca. 7 cm x 8 cm zeigen die wichtigsten Orte und Sehenswürdigkeiten entlang der Route so z. B. Klosterneuburg, Korneuburg, Tulln, Krems, Stein, Spitz, Grein, Mauthausen, Ottensheim, Aschach usw. - Etw. gebräunt und fleckig.‎

‎Cora, Guido, ital. Geograf, geb. 20. Dez. 1851 zu Turin, widmete sich früh geographischen Studien, die er seit 1870 in Deutschland, besonders in Leipzig fortsetzte. 1872 in die Heimat zurückgekehrt, gründete er 1873 die geographische Zeitschrift "Cosmos", welche er seitdem redigierte. 1874 und 1876 machte er wissenschaftliche Reisen nach Korfu , Epirus und Nordafrika. Er veröffentlichte "Da Brindisi a Suez" (1870), "Spedizione italiana alla Nuova Guinea" (Rom 1872). "Cenni generali intorno ad un viaggio nella Bassa Albania ed a Tripoli di Barberia" (Turin 1875). "Note cartografiche della reggenza di Tunisi" und seit 1884 gab er ein Annuario geografico heraus. - Titelblatt mit kleinem Stempel, gelegentlich gebräunt. - Title page with small stamp, paper occasionally browned. ‎Le volume sur la géologie (1871) est organisé en deux sections : la première sur le Nevada et la seconde (partie inachevée) sur la Californie. Commençant par les données géographiques sur ces États, les chapitres suivants traitent de la géologie, des districts miniers et des processus métallurgiques, et le volume se termine sur les mines d'or de la Sierra Nevada. Ces rapports ont été inclus dans un travail plus vaste sur le Mexique, car la Californie et le Nevada faisaient autrefois partie du Mexique. En 1864, à la suite de l'expédition militaire française au Mexique, la Commission Scientifique du Mexique fut créée. L’exploitation minière en Californie et au Nevada suscitait un vif intérêt international. En 1859, de l'argent a été découvert au Comstock Lode à Virginia City. Des milliers de mineurs, de bûcherons et de commerçants se sont précipités dans la région et des villes ont surgi, nécessitant un chemin de fer entre Virginia City et Truckee à travers la vallée de Washoe. À la fin des années 1870, le trop bref boom minier était terminé. Les cartes et planches de ce rapport concernent principalement l'exploitation minière et la géologie, mais elles contiennent souvent des détails fugitifs sur la région avant que de nombreuses villes et opérations minières ne soient abandonnées. Les planches ont été dessinées par Erhard Schieble et toutes sauf une ont été imprimées par Lemercier. Ce sont de superbes interprétations de leurs sujets par certains des cartographes les plus accomplis de l'époque, imprimées dans un pays au sommet de son excellence dans ce type de travail. These reports were included in the larger work on Mexico because California and Nevada were formerly part of Mexico. In 1864, as a consequence of the French military expedition to Mexico, the Commission Scientifique du Mexique was established. Mining in California and Nevada was of intense international interest. In 1859 silver was discovered at the Comstock Lode in Virginia City. Thousands of miners, loggers, and traders rushed to the region and towns sprang up, necessitating a railroad between Virginia City and Truckee through the Washoe Valley. By the late 1870s, the all-too-brief mining boom was spent. The maps and plates in this report relate primarily to mining and geology, but often they contain fugitive details on the region before many of the towns and mining operations were abandoned. The plates were drawn by Erhard Schieble and all but one were printed by Lemercier. They are superb renditions of their subjects by some of the more accomplished mapmakers and view makers of the time, printed in a country at the height of its excellence in this type of work. M8-C‎
