‎Eraserhead Original photograph from the set of the 1977 film‎

‎Los Angeles: American Film Institute AFI 1973. Vintage borderless photograph of director David Lynch actor Jack Nance and cinematographer Herbert Cardwell on the set of the 1977 film. holograph annotations on the verso.

"Eraserhead" Lynch's first feature film was was shot piecemeal on an AFI backlot in Los Angeles over a period of five years beginning in 1972. In 1973 two years into the project cinematographer Herbert Cardwell shown in this photo died in his sleep at the age of 35. He was replaced after four weeks of searching by Frederick Elmes.

David Lynch's first feature film. The AFI provided the director with use of their lot where he also lived during much of filming at no charge but he had difficulty getting financial assistance from them on the basis of his 20-page script and decidedly unorthodox methods. Terence Malick screened the film at one point for a financial backer who walked out calling the movie "bullshit." A bad call as the film's wild success on the midnight movie circuit-and subsequent success as a legitimate art film gained the vocal admiration of everyone from Charles Bukowski to Stanley Kubrick.

7x 4.5 inches. ‎Brubaker Vernacular photo album and scrapbook documenting the 1980 film‎

‎Los Angeles: Twentieth Century-Fox 1980. Vintage vernacular photo album and scrapbook by Ray Abraham a high school art teacher in Athens OH who also appeared as an extra in the film. Containing 17 predominantly color photographs of actors or crew members on location or interacting with the nearby community as well as clippings from local papers about the film signed letters addressed to Abraham from actors Robert Redford and Konrad Sheehan and other ephemera.

The film which was shot on location at the recently closed Junction City Prison in Ohio used locals as extras for the prison scenes and based on the newspaper clippings was a major source of excitement for the nearby towns. This extended to Abraham who apparently invited the stars of the film to attend an exhibition of his students' art work at Athens High School. While Redford declined local actor and apparent Redford look-alike James Linton caused quite the sensation among the teenagers. Altogether a detailed and charming look at the effects of a major Hollywood production on a community during location shooting.

Inspired by the 1969 nonfiction book "Accomplices to the Crime" by Tom Murton and Joe Hyams about abuse and corruption in the Arkansas prison system. Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.

Scrapbook Good only with many interior pages loose or plastic sheets no longer attached.

Photographs variously sized most 3.5 x 5 inches. ‎The Heart is a Lonely Hunter Original screenplay for the 1968 film‎

‎N.p.: The Landau Company 1963. Draft script for the 1968 film.

As early as 1950 there was talk of adapting Carson McCullers' 1940 debut novel "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter" for the screen. In 1963 producer David Susskind took over Jose Quintero's attempt at adapting the novel which began two years earlier with a script from British screenwriter Gavin Lambert. Susskind passed on Lambert's script opting for a script from Thomas C. Ryan.

Susskind planned to shoot the film in New York City with director Sidney Lumet but the project ended up being held up indefinitely. Four years later Marc Merson's Brownstone Productions had taken over the film rights with Thomas C. Ryan's original 1963 script and with Ryan co-producing. During filming Ryan and director Robert Ellis Miller would make extensive re-writes as they went.

One of the great film adaptations of any American novel starring Sondra Locke in her debut film opposite Alan Arkin. Although much of the political aspect of McCullers' novel was removed from the film the themes present in the author's work are readily apparent: race loneliness impoverishment and anger. Arkin and Locke were nominated for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress Oscars.

Set in in a small Southern town shot on location in Selma Alabama.

Red titled vinyl Hart Stenographic Bureau wrappers.
