‎This is Volume I of the three-volume catalogue raisonné of all drawings considered by the authors to be by Rubens. It covers the years 1590- 1608, Volumes II and III dealing, respectively, with the periods 1609?20 and 1621?40. It is the first publication that presents the artist?s entire drawn oeuvre in chronological order, previous such publications containing only selections of drawings. By leafing through the illustrations, this arrangement provides the user with a quick visual impression of the variety of techniques, media, subject and functions of Rubens?s drawings at an one time. Volume I consists of the drawings of the artist?s childhood, apprenticeship and first years as a master in Antwerp to his formative years in Italy, spent mostly in Mantua and Rome, with an excursion to Spain. These are the years primarily devoted to learning and absorbing the art of the past, from sixteenth-century German and Netherlandish prints to the works of the ancient and Italian Renaissance masters. A large number of these drawings consists of copies after the works of other artists, largely executed as part of the artistic training at the time. For the first time, Rubens?s copies and their models are not discussed and illustrated as a separate entity but are fully integrated into the rest of his graphic oeuvre, thus showing copies and original compositions created at the same time side by side. The volume contains 204 entries, including several sheets with drawings on recto and verso. Each entry consists of a detailed physical description of the drawing, provenance, exhibition history, full bibliography and a critical, interpretive discussion. In addition, Volume I contains an essay on the history of the scholarship of Rubens?s drawings, a subject that has not been treated before. All drawings by Rubens and the works by other artists he copied as well as a selection of other comparative images are reproduced in color. Anne-Marie Logan is a specialist in Rubens?s drawings and in those of his Flemish contemporaries, especially Van Dyck's. Kristin Lohse Belkin is a Rubens specialist who has carried out extensive research on the artist.‎

‎De laatste jaren wordt het werk van de Antwerpse havenkunstenaar Eugeen Van Mieghem internationaal herontdekt door tentoonstellingen o.a. in Barcelona, Londen, New York, Parijs, Amsterdam en Berlijn.Dit is mede te danken aan auteur en conservator Erwin Joos van het Eugeen Van Mieghem Museum in Antwerpen die sinds 1982 het oeuvre bestudeert. Dit is zijn eerste boek gewijd aan de grootste Van Mieghem collectie ter wereld: het Stedelijk Prentenkabinet der Stad Antwerpen dat niet minder dan 610 werken van deze kunstenaar bezit. Van Mieghem groeit op in het hartje van de oude Antwerpse haven. In 1892 komt hij de Antwerpse Academie in contact met het werk van o.a. Van Gogh, Seurat en de Toulouse-Lautrec. In 1896 werd hij echter van de academie verwijderd en gaat werken in de haven. In 1901 kende Van Mieghem heel wat succes op "La Libre Esthétique". Kort daarna huwt hij met Augustine Pautre. Rond 1900 maakt hij een indrukwekkende reeks over de Joodse landverhuizers die met de Red Star Line naar de Nieuwe Wereld vertrekken. Eind dat jaar wordt Augustine ziek. Van Mieghem zal haar stervend weergeven in een indrukwekkende reeks tekeningen en pastels. In 1912 heeft hij een eerste individuele expositie maar de ontluikende internationale belangstelling wordt door de Eerste Wereldoorlog abrupt afgebroken. In 1920 Van Mieghem benoemd tot leraar aan de Antwerpse Academie en tot aan zijn dood blijft hij kunst maken over de Antwerpse haven en haar bevolking. Als geen ander heeft hij het leven van de gewone mens, levend en werkend in een wereldhaven, getekend en geschilderd. In recent years, the work of the Antwerp harbour artist Eugeen Van Mieghem is being rediscovered through expositions in e.g. Barcelona, London, New York, Paris, Amsterdam and Berlin. This is particularly due to the author and curator of the Eugeen Van Mieghem Museum in Antwerp, Erwin Joos, who is studying the oeuvre since 1982. GESCHIEDENIS VAN DE COLLECTIE Aan het einde van zijn leven liet Constantin Meunier (1831-1905) deze mooie atelierwoning bouwen. In 1936 werd het gebouw, met zijn meer dan 700 werken tellende collectie, door de Belgische staat aangekocht en drie jaar later voor het publiek opengesteld. ‎Soleil Politique is the MUHKA catalog for the first retrospective of the Belgian key artist Marcel Broodthaers. In recent years, Broodthaers work has been on display in a traveling exhibition in top museums, organized by the MoMA and Museo Reina Sofía. However, the M HKA deliberately chose to make its own project, shown for the first time in its own country since a decade. Soleil Politique approaches Broodthaers oeuvre from the idea that art is always political, and that politics is constant negotiation without conclusion. This statement for complexity starts when, around 1967, Broodthaers lets the word interfere again with his visual work, and presents words or text in different contexts. New texts were added to the catalog: Anny De Decker about the exhibitions of Marcel Broodthaers in the Wide White Space Gallery, Marie-Pascale Gildemyn about the (names of) persons in the work of Broodthaers, Hannah Brückmuller about La Banque (1964-1967 ) and the early performances of Broodthaers, Lotte Beckwé about Isi Fiszman and la morale d?artiste! ‎deel 1 van catalogus Raisonne, = enkel het deel monografie. Born in Antwerp, Jules Schmalzigaug was a well-travelled Belgian futurist painter who came of age at the turn of the 20th century. He lived for a time in Paris, but eventually moved to Venice to participate in the Italian avant-garde art scene. Following the outbreak of the First World War, he relocated to the Netherlands and began experimenting with light and colour. Declared unfit for military service, he became lonely and fell into depression, and committed suicide in 1917. Forgotten for a time, his work was rediscovered in 1980 and has since appeared in international exhibitions on futurism. This monograph on Schmalzigaug contributes to a wider appreciation for his artistic genius. // Belgisch kunstenaar Jules Schmalzigaug (1882, Antwerpen) groeit op in een welgesteld milieu in het Antwerpse fin-de-siècle. Hij reist door Italië en Duitsland, leeft een ijd in Parijs, en installeert zich uiteindelijk in Venetië. Daar maakt hij al snel deel uit van een groep jonge avant-gardekunstenaars die de strijd aangaan met het nostalgische passeïsme. Hij is de eerste Belg die deelneemt aan de Italiaanse futuristische beweging. Na de uitbraak van de Eerste Wereldoorlog werkt hij verder in Nederland aan zijn intrigerende experimenten met licht en kleur. Op vierendertigjarige leeftijd pleegt Schmalzigaug zelfmoord en daarmee komt een abrupt eind aan een veelbelovende carrière. Het werk van Jules Schmalzigaug wordt in 1980 herontdekt: verschillende van zijn werken worden getoond op de grote overzichtstentoonstelling Futurismo & Futurismi in het Palazzo Grassi in Venetië in 1986. En ook in eigen land wordt hij - na tentoonstellingen in Brussel, Gent en Oostende - eindelijk erkend als een van de belangrijkste Belgische voorlopers van de modernistische avant-garde. Deze nieuwe, ambitieuze publicatie hoopt bij te dragen aan de internationale waardering die Jules Schmalzigaug verdient. De uitgave bestaat uit twee delen in een foedraal. Het eerste deel, van de hand van Peter J.H. Pauwels, is een monografie en beschrijft het oeuvre van de kunstenaar in verhouding tot de Europese artistieke stromingen van zijn tijd. Het tweede deel is een catalogue raisonné die voor het eerst het volledige oeuvre van Schmalzigaug documenteert.‎
