YUNUS EMRE, (13th century).; ERZINCANÎ SEYH HAYYAT VEHBI (TERZI BABA), (1779-1848).
[DIWAN of YUNUS EMRE - RAIF YELKENCI EDITION] Isbu kitab-i mu?stetabin dirununda kutbu'l ârifîn mesayih-i azamdan Mevlana Âsik Yunus Emre hazretlerinin divân-i lâtiflerile halifesi Âsik Yunus hazretlerinin divân-i kemâllari ve kezalik mesayih-i azamdan Erzincanî Seyh-i Hayyat Vehbî hazretlerinin Kenzü'l-miftâh kitabi hâsiyede tâb ve temsîn kilinmisdir.
Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original cloth bdg. Demy 8vo. (22 x 14 cm). In Ottoman script. 188 p., ills. Lithograph. Divân-i Âsik Yunus Emre. [On 'derkenar'] Kenzü'l-miftah ve Serh-i Kaside-i Yunus Emre. Yunus Emre was a sufi poet in 13th century. The information on his life is fragmentary, based on what he writes in his Diwan and on stories told within the Bektashi tradition. He is the author of a Diwan. This Diwan contains 417 poems, all of which bar one are ghazals. He mostly used the Turkic system of versifying, based on the number of syllables and stress position rather than the elaborate rules of Arab-Persian prosody. He used the Old Anatolian Turkish language, which was understood by everyone in its period, with very few Arabic or Persian words, and he contributed greatly to the establishment of a Turkish mystical vocabulary based on classic Sufi terms. The most recurrent themes in Yunus Emre's Diwan are mystic love(âsk), the Friend (dost), and how to be a dervish. Yet he is no recluse and the conditions of everyday life are reflected in his poems. His easily understandable religious and moral advice is couched in a lyrical language that is heartfelt, sincere and often highly passionate. His poetry, set to music, was of central importance in the dissemination of Sufi teachings in Anatolia, and influenced the tekke poetry of the following centuries. The intense religious and humane feeling in his poetry has not lost its appeal today. (Source: A history of Seljuks, Ibrahim Kafesoglu). On derkenar text, there's 'Kenzü'l mifta hby Erzincanî Terzi Baba and annotation of 'qasidah' by Yunus Emre. Erzincanî's verse "Kenzil Fütuh" composed of his Sufi and mystic poems was compiled and transferred into verse by Haci Hafiz Mehmed Rüsdi Efendi and published as "Kenzü'l-miftah". It is very important poetry book on sufism and Islamic mysticism. This book is printed by Raif Yelkenci, (1894-1974) who was a Turkish early antiquarian bookseller and manuscript dealer in Antiquarian Bazaar, Beyazit. He was specialist on Yunus Emre and his poems. TALAT S[AIT] HALMAN, (1931-2014).
The Turkish muse: Views and reviews, 1960s-1990s. Edited by Jayne L. Warner.
As New English Original blue cloth bdg. Mint. Roy. 8vo. (23 x 16 cm). In English. [xx], 369, [1] p. Signed and inscribed by Halman to Jean Dunn. The Turkish Muse: Views and Reviews, 1960s-1990s, collects Talat S. Halman's book reviews written in English and, read chronologically, provides a unique perspective on the development of Turkish literature and criticism during the formative and later years of the Turkish Republic. The new genres adopted from Europe and, to a lesser extent, from the United States include the novel, the short story, the stage play, and the essay. The reviews collected in this volume reflect the way in which these genres developed and matured within their new milieu of Turkish letters. Establishing each book in its literary, social, and cultural Turkish context, Halman then addresses the work's more international or universal importance. Written over a period of four decades, these reviews illuminate the careers of many writers from their early work to their rise as leading Turkish poets, novelists, and dramatists-Ilhan Berk, Melih Cevdet Anday, Güngör Dilmen, Fazil Hüsnü Dagarca, and Yasar Kemal, to name just a few. More recent reviews discuss the work of such important figures as Hilmi Yavuz and Orhan Pamuk.

SÜLEYMAN NAZIF, (Turkish poet), (1870-1927).
[Autograph letter and envelope, signed by "Süleyman Nazif" to Ibnülemin Mahmud Kemal Inal].
Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original autograph letter. 3 p. No letterhead on paper neither on envelope. In Ottoman script. Stamped envelope. It is a poetic style of Nazif. Signed as 'Süleyman Nazif'. Dated 29 Eylül 1932, Nisantasi. Nazif was an eminent Ottoman-born Turkish poet. He mastered Arabic, Persian, and French languages and worked as a civil servant during the reign of Sultan Abdul Hamid II. He contributed to the literary magazine Servet-i Fünun ("Wealth of Knowledge") until it was censored by the Ottoman government in 1901. Nazif, ever critical of the European imperialist powers, attracted once more their hostility when he wrote his satirical article "Hazret-i Isa'ya açik mektup" (Open letter to Jesus) in which he described to Jesus' all the crimes that were perpetrated by his followers in his name. Two weeks later he published "The reply of Jesus" in which he, as if Jesus was talking, refuted the charges and replied that he is not responsible for the Christians' crimes. These two letters caused a furore among Christians in Turkey and Europe, putting Nazif on the verge of being put on trial. In the end this did not materialize, Nazif apologizing but being not less critical of the "Crusader mentality" of the imperialist Europeans, targeting Turkey in order to extend their power on its soil. Ibnülemin Mahmud Kemal Inal, (1871-1957) was an Ottoman-Turkish intelligent and 'the last biographer'.

Golden grace: Tombac.= Tombak: Altindan süzülen zarafet. [Exhibition catalogue].
New English Paperback. 4to. (29 x 24 cm). In English and Turkish. 208 p., color ills. Golden grace: Tombac.= Tombak: Altindan süzülen zarafet. [Exhibition catalogue]. "A magic world unfolded before us during our preparations for the exhibition Tombac: Golden Grace. With Yapi Kredi's tombac collection as our starting point we discovered that behind the graceful and magnificent culture created with gold was in fact thousands of years of know-how and experience. The power and prestige conferred on gold down the ages gave rise to the notion of covering items made from less valuable metals with gold and inspired the development of gold plating methods. Beginning in Central Asia, Turks played a vital role in the production of metal goods and created a valuable culture in this field, crowned during the Ottoman period with the tombac gilding technique. However, the discovery of the electrolysis technique in the 19th century, led in due course to the discontinuation of the tombac gilding method. This book was produced to introduce the still insufficiently researched art of tombac that is about to sink into oblivion. While exploring the subject of gold plating from the early period, the focus is on tombac items which formed the pinnacle of Ottoman metal craft. Nihat Tekdemir examined the gold plating methods used in different periods of the cultural history. He covered the Ottoman tombac gilding technique comprehensively, described the differences between this and other gilding techniques and named the areas in which tombac was used. Prof. Dr. Sümer Atasoy explained that copper always was the most favoured metal in Anatolia, and while relating the story of coppersmithing, he also touched upon production techniques and the decoration of copper before the tombac gilding. Ömür Tufan, expert at Topkapi Palace Museum's Copper and Chandelier Department, described the Ottoman sultan's tombac effects at Topkapi Palace, the characteristic features of the tombacs in the collection and where they were used.". Sivas with its Armenian cultural heritage.= Ermeni kültür varliklariyla Sivas.
New English Paperback. Pbo. 4to. (31 x 24 cm). In English and Turkish. 163 p., ills. Sivas with its Armenian cultural heritage.= Ermeni kültür varliklariyla Sivas. In tracing the roots of the Armenian community, this book reveals the multicultural heritage of Sivas. Located in the heart Anatolia, Sivas extends over a vast geography with subregions that are different yet complete each other and can only be fully understood in the context of multicultural heritage. The content of this book is comprised of the results of research conducted about Sivas by the Hrant Dink Foundation. We hope that the information presented here interests not only researchers and history enthusiasts, but anyone who wants to learn more about Sivas. Sivas is a land that reaches to the Black Sea in the north, as far as Aleppo to the south, the Euphrates in the east and Cappadocia to the west. The vast geography creates particularities in the regions, and to each of these we have tried to give attention. In order to understand Sivas, one needs to go from Susehri to Gürün, from Ulas to Sarkisla, to consider Hafik and Zara separately; the towns of these dispersed regions, Çepni of Gemerek and Mancilik of Kangal should be taken as distinct places, and each of the villages of Divrigi should be studied thoroughly by themselves. In presenting our findings, we also mention the challenges we had and the impressions we gained during the research process of the cultural heritage that is faced by the threat of being forgotten. By this we aim to contribute to the methodological discussions used in researching similar topics.

Trying to have a holistic view, we put together the knowledge we gathered during the two periods of fieldwork in Develi natives in Istanbul and abroad, and research on the literature, especially from Armenian sources. After almost three years of research, this book presents the several hundred years' changing history and the 2018 situation of Develi's Armenian life and cultural heritage.

Tatarli: The return of colours.= Tatarli: Rückkehr der Farben.= Tatarli: Renklerin dönüsü.
New English Paperback. Pbo. 4to. (30 x 22 cm). In English, German, and Turkish. 367 p. Color ills. Tatarli: The return of colours.= Tatarli: Rückkehr der Farben.= Tatarli: Renklerin dönüsü. Das im 5. Jh. v. September 2010 ausgestellt. ARCHEOLOGY Anatolian civilizations Phrygia Excavations History of art.
