While studying in university he entered Istanbul Municipal Conservatory. Later he began singing in various jazz bands. During his compulsory military service in Urfa he served in the officers' club as a singer. Upon returning to Istanbul he was introduced to music producers by Leyla Sayar a well-known actress whom he met in Urfa. In 1961 he composed his best-known hit Little Lucy. He also wrote the lyrics of this melody. Before the 1960s Turkish pop music was mostly covers of West European melodies. There were a few compositions in Turkish also. Little Lucy is considered as one of the milestones in Turkish popular music. Not only because it was one of the earliest popular music compositions which the music enthusiasts warmly greeted but also it was sung in English quite unlike the earlier examples. Kiss me Lovers Wish and Memories were also his English-lyrics compositions. In the Balkan Music Festival held on 2 September 1964 he won the Best Singer title. Tulipan, Maramao perché sei morto, Il pinguino innamorato: sono alcune delle canzoni del Trio Lescano, le tre ragazze olandesi che tra il 1936 e il 1943 scatenarono in Italia una rivoluzione musicale, importando lo swing americano vietato dal regime. Del Trio Lescano esiste una memoria annebbiata dal tempo e dall'oblio. Eppure se c'è una colonna sonora degli anni della guerra questa è proprio rappresentata dalle canzoni interpretate da Alessandra, Giuditta e Caterina, le tre sorelle olandesi di origine ebraica che capitano quasi per caso nel nostro Paese e qui trovano un inaspettato e folgorante successo, ma anche un altrettanto inaspettato coinvolgimento nei tragici eventi della storia. Pagina dopo pagina scorrono sotto gli occhi del lettore le voglie di modernizzazione e le pulsioni xenofobe della società italiana, il boom della radio e del varietà, il rutilante mondo della musica leggera, ma anche la discriminazione razziale - che colpisce non solo il Trio Lescano -, la progressiva e tragica perdita di una cultura libera. Ecco perché raccontare la storia di Alessandra, Giuditta e Caterina equivale a delineare un ritratto del nostro Paese ai tempi del fascismo.

1 S. Kleines Visitkartenformat. Der Sohn eines Militärmusik-Kapellmeisters erhielt anfänglich Klavierunterricht bei Alexander Müller in Zürich und wurde 1845 am Leipziger Konservatorium Schüler von Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. "Seit 1847 war er in Zürich, 1850-59 in Winterthur Lehrer für Klavier, Harmonie und Komposition. Anschließend ging er nach Schaffhausen, wo er sich als Klavier- und Gesanglehrer betätigte und seit 1862 den Männerchor Schaffhausen leitete. 1866 ließ sich Eschmann in Zürich nieder und wirkte dort bis zu seinem Tod als Klavierlehrer. Er komponierte zahlreiche Chor- und Klavierwerke und veröffentlichte 1879 einen 'Wegweiser durch die Klavier-Literatur'" (DBE).
