Fine. - Approximately 70 words typed on his 8-1/8 inch high by 5-3/4 inch wide creamy white official stationery with "De Burgemeester van Amsterdam" printed in blue at top left under the embossed seal of the City of Amsterdam. In his letter addressed to the President of the Saint Nicholas Society in New York William M. Clearwater d'Ailly extends his "hearty greetings" to the members of the Saint Nicholas Society on the occasion of the society's anniversary. He apologizes for not being able to attend the dinner "but I hope to meet you on another visit to the United States of America." Signed "AJD" with his initials as Burgomaster Mayor of Amsterdam. Folded for mailing with minor creases to the edges. J. d'Ailly" printed at top left. In his letter addressed to the President of the Saint Nicholas Society in New York William M. Clearwater d'Ailly informs him that his "eldest son aged 18 will leave to-morrow for the United States where he got a scholarship for Groton-School for the year 1950-1951." He goes on to say that he gave his son Clearwater's contact information and that of the "Saint Nicholas Society in case he might need any advice from friends." Signed "AJD" with his initials. Folded for mailing with a tiny spot of foxing to the right edge and a minor spot of soiling to the left. Tribes is a group of families living as a community under one or more chiefs, united by language and customs.
