Se amate pedalare su lunghe distanze, se vi piace ammirare ciò che vi sta intorno e non apprezzate i ritmi esasperati, se a tutto questo unite una buona resistenza e uno spirito agonistico non eccessivamente spiccato, allora potete essere dei buoni randonneur. Il termine randonnée significa, letteralmente, "escursione", e sta a indicare quelle manifestazioni ciclistiche dai chilometraggi lunghi, per non dire lunghissimi, in cui si parte a gruppetti, alla francese, in una fascia oraria prestabilita. A differenza delle granfondo non sono delle vere e proprie corse, ma non per questo sono meno impegnative: con l'aumentare dei chilometri, le medie orarie calano nettamente, i ciclisti sono uniti da una sorta di cameratismo e hanno come comune obiettivo quello di raggiungere la meta. Questo libro offre una panoramica sul vastissimo mondo delle randonnée, partendo dalla definizione del termine "brevetto", per passare a indicazioni dettagliate sulla preparazione fisica: dalle attività alternative alla bicicletta alla ripresa delle pedalate. Segue un capitolo dedicato all'alimentazione e al sonno: considerando che alcune randonnée sono lunghe oltre 1000 km, è fondamentale sapere come gestire queste due componenti. Vi è inoltre una sezione dedicata alle principali manifestazioni in Italia e nel mondo, cominciando da quelle di 200 km per giungere alla mitica RAAM, che attraversa gli Stati Uniti cost-to-coast per un totale di 3000 miglia. Completano il manuale alcuni suggerimenti sulla gestione del recupero e un glossario sui termini, prevalentemente francesi, riferiti alle randonnée.
