Description: "At its height the Khmer Empire stretched from Angkor as far west as Muang Singh on the border with present-day Burma and Thailand and as far north as Wat Phu on the banks of the Mekong river. Following on from the great success of Angkor: Cities and Temples the renowned scholar and epigraphist Claude Jacques explores the achievements and developments of the Khmer people from the 5th to the 13th century. Beginning with the early pre-Angkorean site of Funan and ending with the reign of the great Khmer king Jayavarman VII the author journies behind the well-known temples of Angkor Wat to reveal the marvels of many temples hitherto inaccessible to visitors. Thus the reader is taken a virtual tour of sites as varied as Preah Vihear perched on a steep cliff overlooking the Cambodian plain the mysterious and extensive site of Preah Khan of Kompong Svay and the exquisitely carved temple in the forest of Beng Mealea to mention but a few. The author speculates as to the origins and reasons behind each site and how the Khmer empire functioned over many hundreds of years. Superbly photographed by Philippe Lafond the book includes site plans old photographs aerial shots of the ancient cities as well as detailed photographs showing the reliefs and other magnificent carvings. Never before has the richness and diversity of the Khmer Empire been captured so evocatively." -- with a bonus offer--; The richness and diversity of the Khmer Empire are shown here through stunning photographs site plans aerial shots of ancient cities and more. . 2007. 9749863305 . FREE UPGRADE to Courier/Priority Shipping Upon Request - IN STOCK AND IMMEDIATELY AVAILABLE FOR SHIPMENT - Flawless copy brand new pristine never opened -- 272 pages; 303 illus. 128 in color. -- with a bonus offer--; In May 1968 thousands of workers and students took to the streets of Paris provoking an unprecedented wave of strikes walkouts and demonstrations. The confrontations between police and protesters led to a general strike of eleven million workers that brought the country to a virtual standstill and nearly toppled Charles de Gaulle's government. The faculty and student body of the Ecole des Beaux Arts were among the strikers and a number of the students met spontaneously in the college's lithographic department to produce the first poster of the revolt which bore the declaration "Usines Universités Union" "Factories and universities unite" loosely translated. From this initiative was born the Atelier Populaire or "popular workshop" a collective of print shops that produced hundreds of posters to encourage the protestors and to report on police brutality. These posters included many of the often Situationist-inspired mottos for which May '68 is remembered today such as "Be young and shut up" and "return to normal" accompanied by a picture of a herd of sheep. Beauty Is in the Street reproduces more than 200 of these posters in full color which have since become landmarks in political art and graphic design. Also included is a thumbnail index of an additional 411 posters; a wealth of archival documentary photographs and new translations of firsthand accounts of the clashes between the students and strikers and the police many published in English for the first time; and an introduction by Philippe Vermès one of the founders of the Atelier Populaire. . 2011. 0956192831 . Beeswax tunnels are redolent with an overwhelming scent of sweet honey and pollen; powdery piles of pollen are such a luminous yellow that you want to put your hands in them and play. Visitors to the installations are opened up become aware of the energetic presence of the natural materials shown and are prepared for a spiritual and intellectual encounter with the work's symbolic content. This retrospective monograph establishes the unique position and great power of Laib's work. . 2006. 3775717366 . Hatje Cantz Publishers hardcover

The compendium includes the most creative and innovative of those images spanning the 1970s. Most of these have never been published and will come as a revelation to those unfamiliar with this aspect of his achievements. Throughout his career Antonio kept a visual photographic diary of the people who came and went through the studio where he and his partner art-director Juan Ramos were rewriting the history of fashion illustration. Antonio was not content to merely record these faces and bodies; he elaborated each into a sequence and then explored the potential fantasy within each series. He would arrange these pictures into photo albums. This is the chronicle of an era as seen through the eyes and sensibility of one of it s greatest visionaries. If you lived through that period this is one of the best ways of revisiting it; if you are seeing it for the first time you will come away with a perfect snapshot of what it was like. . 2011. 193188594X .
