rif. 2231313 April 1949. On his embossed letterhead Church Street Old Headington Oxford. 2pp 12mo. In fair condition aged and worn with slight creasing at head. The signature is stylized and streamlined and seems to read 'Sarmadriaga'. He explains that he is 'still far too heavily engaged for a period which I estimate roughly until Xmas'. He knows by experience that 'this circus of international activity' means that it is 'no use my binding myself too far in advance for I am at high risks of defaulting'. In addition 'recurring bronchitis' makes him 'an unsafe lecturer in winter': 'So – this year – nothing next year possibly in the spring but with as short a notice as you can manage.' The letter ends: 'SORRY to be so difficult' with the signature lengthwise in a margin. 13 April 1949. On his embossed letterhead, Church Street, Old Headington, Oxford. unknown
