1962réf. CA024298 pages with map and tables. Octavo 8 3/4" x 6" bound in quarter red leather with raised spine bands and gilt lettering to spine. Introduction by Ernesto Lemoine Villicana. Boletin del Archivo General de la Nacion. First edition. Morelia is a city and municipality in the north central part of the state of Michoacan in central Mexico. The city is in the Guayangareo Valley and is the capital of the state. The main pre-Hispanic cultures here were the B W Huebsch Inc and the Matlatzinca but no major cities were founded in the valley during this time. The Spanish took control of the area in the 1520s. The Spanish under Viceroy Antonio de Mendoza founded a settlement here in 1541 with the name of Valladolid which became rival to the nearby city of Patzcuaro for dominance in Michoacan. In 1580 this rivalry ended in Valladolid's favor and it became the capital of the colonial province. After the Mexican War of Independence the city was renamed Morelia in honor of Jose Maria Morelos y Pavon who hailed from the city. In 1991 the city was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its well preserved colonial buildings and layout of the historic center. Antonio de Otermin was the Spanish Governor of the northern New Spain province of Santa Fe de Nuevo Mico today the U.S. states of New Mexico and Arizona from 1678 to 1682. Otermin was governor during the Pueblo Revolt during which the religious leader Popled the Pueblo people in a military ouster of the Spanish colonists. Pops forces besieged Santa Fe surrounding the city and cutting off its water supply. Oterm barricaded in the Palace of the Governors called for a general retreat and on September 21 the Spanish settlers streamed out of the capital city headed for Ciudad Juez then called El Paso del Norte. 2013This book is an investigation of several key questions relevant to Juvenal’s Fifth Satire: What is the character of the speaker? What is the nature of the addressee (s) ? How should we understand the relationship between patron and client? Furthermore, if we compare Juvenal to Horace’s Satires and Epistles, what are the similarities and differences between Juvenal’s world and the egalitarianism of patronage within the circle around Augustus and Maecenas? What do those texts reveal about Juvenal’s attitude to the emperor; and is it possible to extend Juvenal’s jaundiced view of the rex to the princeps? ; Collection Latomus Volume 342; 100 pages; Isbn: 978287031289X
