It is certainly not an ordinary exhibition for us, one that carries a special meaning. As a project, it developed from the idea that our exhibition should be an archive for Nuri Iyem in all senses of the world, moving beyond a simple sharing of his work, which has been done before, and attempting to shed light onto artist's inner world". 2014New English Paperback. Pbo. 4to. (29 x 24 cm). In English and Turkish. 178 p., color and b/w ills. Within the scope of its 10th year, Istanbul Modern presents "Plurivocality", an exhibition investigating the interrelations between auditory and visual arts through a selection of contemporary artwork in Turkey. Exploring the close bond the visual arts have established with sound and music from past to present, "Plurivocality" reveals the special personal and social roles music plays in artistic processes. The exhibition features current works by artists that treat the visual and the auditory not as distinct disciplines, but rather as two fields that work in tandem. The paintings, sculptures, videos, and installations in the exhibition render sound and music visually as a theme, concept, or issue, using different forms of music and sound as metaphors and means of expression. The exhibition also serves as a source for understanding the cultural and sociopolitical role sound and music play in Turkey and how various music trends have influenced visual art practices. A research area at the entrance of the exhibition hall, "Repertoire" explores the intersections between music and the visual arts in Turkey as well as past collaborations between actors in the two fields. "Repertoire" is an initiative that examines Turkey's sociocultural history from the late Ottoman era to the 1980s via its reflections in the visual arts and music.

2016New English Paperback. 4to. (29 x 24 cm). In English and Turkish. 283 p., color ills. Giorgio de Chirico: The enigma of the world.= Dünyanin gizemi. Curated by Fabio Benzi. [Exhibition catalogue]. Prep. by Begüm Akkoyunlu Ersöz et al. Giorgio de Chirico is one of the most extraordinary figures of the 20thcentury, a period marked by consecutive avant-garde movements. During this rich period that brought to fore different forms and modes of expression rather than themes in painting, de Chirico, as distinct from his contemporaries, created a unique metaphysical universe in which he carried the fresh themes he developed and carried to the center of his painting. Following the first metaphysical works he produced between 1910 and 1918, which also served as a source of inspiration for the Surrealists, he gravitated towards a different search with the changing dynamics of the post-World War I period. He was interested in ancient Greek and Roman art and re-interpreted the works of Old masters. He revisited metaphysical painting when he turned 80. He completed his artistic career with the new themes he developed in this area and the canvases he painted with lighter colours compared to his early period. The exhibition catalogue includes writings by the artist and encompassing essays focusing on de Chirico's artistic career and the Metaphysical Art, which he invented, as well as exemplifying his various periods ranging from his earliest works to his last ones.
