Booklet of 9 only captioned sepia postcard views lacks 3 postcards 15.3 x 6.1cm each perforated at margin final card with tissue guard versos divided in two printed in green with the studio reference numbers at top right otherwise blank; original stiff attractive grey card covers title printed in black within a foliated triple-ruled border cover soiled and marked. A very interesting suite of views. An appealing suite of twelve historic views. We have been unable to source the printer or studio but they are likely to be after M.S. Nakajima the influential Japanese photographer who first advertised on the island in 1911. The image of the trolleybus on New Bridge Road would date the whole compilation to around 1927. 1915ref. 29358Trier Germany: Schaar & Dathe 1915. 85 b&w postcards printed by Schaar & Dathe of Trier who were one of the biggest German postcard printers and used During W.W.I the company had 15 presses and employed 150 workers & used letterpress lithograph and collotype processes. Creating postcards during the war was an easy affordable way to spread the news visually about the areas most affected by combat through images of ruins life in the camps and the cleanup efforts of soldiers and civilians. The postcards are captioned in French & numbered on the verso. The interchanges between the children speak to shortages of candles the destroyed family clock marching with guns children lined up for military service babies grown big enough for going to the war. 1950ref. 214096Japan. No date. 1950s. Six colour post cards 14.5 x 10cm pictorial folder measuring 16.5 x 11.5cm captions in Japanese and English on reverse. Minor wear paper folder but otherwise very good. Six colour post cards featuring Ainu people in their traditional costumes performing their rituals and dances. The Japanese text on the envelope says that the Ainus are the only "primitive people" in Japan and they need to be studied. . unknown
2003ref. 214690Indonesia. Circa2003. Four postcards one in duplicate depicting three scenes of people within the Islamic world each with an accompanying quotation in Indonesian from the Qur'an or Hadith. The duplicate card has a small pinhole. All cards in very good condition. Each postcard measures 10 x 15cm. Originally sourced from an Indonesian stallholder after Friday prayers sometime in the early 2000s - most likely post-9/11 - these postcards appear to be the product of the growth of Indonesian interest in Shi'a Islam at that time. The scenes depicted appear to be from the Iranian Islamic Revolution given the presence of American weaponry and the use of child soldiers. The juxtaposition of the provocative images and the religious passages seems to indicate a brooding radical Islamist sentiment. . unknown

Nine postcards eight in colour and one real photograph black and white postcard which is not part of the set 14 x 9cm envelope size 15.2 x 9.5cm Japanese captions. All cards in very good condition presented in a slightly worn and soiled pictorial colour envelope. This collection of post cards features eight young women in Manchuria and a separate real photograph postcard showing a beautiful Korean woman in traditional dress. Most of the Manchurian women wear qipao the accompanying captions introduce them as "attractive companions". Some of the women are portrayed as seductive while others look shy and innocent. . unknown

1920ref. 202621920. Very good condition. Complete set in its original box with all 50 printed color postcards with text on front lid ". Put Up Especially for Yellowstone Park Store George Whittaker Proprietor Yellowstone Park Wyoming". George Whittaker was involved with Yellowstone over a long period having been stationed as a soldier at Fort Yellowstone in 1891 having worked as a civilian scout from 1897 to 1909 and as an agent for the Yellowstone Transportation Company. In 1913 Whittaker bought the store and operated it for 20 years adding a gas station in 1915. The postcards numbered at the lower left captioned and with descriptive text at verso. Most by HHT Co; others with copyright H. H. Tammen Co. stamped on front upper edge. Tammen specialized in national park rodeo and western items. Harry Heye Tammen established the firm of H. H. Tammen & Co. in 1881 in Denver Colorado. The company focused on creating souvenir mineralogical curiosities but also sold photography silver souvenir spoons and similar items. In 1895 Tammen became editor of the Denver Post.; his company remained in business until 1953. Box lid slightly dusty splits at some corner seams but otherwise very sturdy. The postcards in immaculate condition. All postcards are unused with split backs. Each of the cards is captioned and numbered at the lower left corner. Box measures 6 x 4 unknown
